I find it disturbing that a man that has lost in two devestating stoppage losses in a row gets to fight another world class fighter straight after.... not forgeting he got a serious concusion and short term memory loss against Abraham. Ward is in the same league as Froch and Abraham (if not better) and I feel he should be pulled out of the tourney. It's up to him if he wants to retire or not but I don't think he should be allowed to face Ward so soon.

I agree and as someone whos suffered concussions I know how easy it is to have one once you have already had one. The more you have the likely you are to have brain damage. 3 violent KO losses in 2 years scares the **** out of me especially when hes facing 2 world class fighters in 2010 you arent huge punches instead there good punches which IMO is worse but the more punches he takes the worse off he is.

I disagree. If he is cleared to fight by the doctors then I'm all for it. Taylor still has a chance to revive his career although Ward is gonna be a very tough fight.

If something does happen to Taylor it might not only put him in serious danger but also screw Ward up mentally as a fighter too. Neither boxer may be the same again. I hope not though.

when he wins we'll look back at how many people said he didn't stand a chance.

The point is that he is fighting Ward too soon after he has just had two bad KO losses. It may not affect him straight after the fight anyway.... look at Ali for instance.... what probably screwed him up was a series of fights throughout his career rather than just one hard fight.

Ward is no big hitter. It's the right decision for Taylor to continue. He'll have his chance to win that fight. Ward is younger and slightly faster. Taylor has more pop and far more experience against top dogs. I'll root for Taylor. He'll get the job done.

the decision as to whether's he's allowed to face Ward so soon, should be left to the best medical specialists available. hopefully, taylor's consulted with some. but yeah, not being a doctor, it seems to me that taylor should be taking a year or more off

I'm not saying he don't have a chance. That's not even my point really... I'm saying not just yet at least! Read my intro.:patsch

That's exactly what I'm thinking too. I'm not a dactor but find it hard to see how one could sanction this fight believing that there isn't a significant risk that Taylor may end up getting seriously hurt or worse.

i hear what you are saying. his health is a concern considering what he has been through.

he does have a good chance against ward. jermain knows how to play rough and fight on the inside and he's dealt w/ hopkins twice so ward's style shouldnt be new to him. thankfully ward isnt the biggest puncher on earth.

Taylor still being in the super 6 doesn't surprise me, to be honest the guy's had the HBO hype machine behind him from the off and has had innumerable big chances which he's done nothing to earn because of the fact. He should never have been in it to start with, Bute would have been a far more deserving entrant. That said, I don't want to see the guy get a beating. Ward ain't a particularly hard puncher (his best shot is the cranium cross to the chin, but I can't see him being allowed to get away with it so freely against another American). Taylor is therefore unlikely to be knocked out so brutally again, however, he'll probably get a pretty good beating over 12. Ward at this point just does most things slightly better including, surprisingly, ring smarts.

Ali was cleared to fight Holmes and Berbick when he was already on L - Dopa for Parkinson's. Very few medical procedures are capable of detecting brain damage in the early stages. Did Taylor get a SPECT scan? I don't hink so.

I agree with the OP. Taylor is a classy guy who will never, ever attain what he once attained, being undisputed champion. There are no easy fights in the super 6 and Ward, while lacking the power Froch and Abraham have, is probably the first opponents with faster hands than Taylor and can cause a lot of accumulated damage. I would hate to see Taylor taking blistering combinations and refusing to quit with his warrior heart. I didn't like the despair in his corner in the Abraham fight when the fight was slipping away and there was nothing Taylor could do about it.

If it were up to me Jermain would either retire, or take a good break followed by a couple fights with Manfredo/Brinkley level guys. Either way, if it was my call, he would leave the tourney.

However, JT is a grown ass man, and it ain't my call.
