YOUNGSTOWN — Few people in Kelly Pavlik's camp expected Jermain Taylor to activate his rematch clause with the Youngstown middleweight. None of them are worried. "I'm excited," said Pavlik's trainer, Jack Loew. "It's like someone just tossed a lion a raw piece of steak. "I can't believe they're jumping back into the fire." Added Top Rank chairman Bob Arum: "They really made a fatal mistake by exercising the option at this point. We're licking our chops." There is a "very big likelihood" it will be a pay-per-view bout, Arum said. Pavlik's last three fights have been on HBO. "We'd book a few big Hispanic stars on the undercard and make a big pitch coast-to-coast," Arum said. " . Pavlik's next bout could be in Cleveland Browns Stadium in June, possibly against Bernard Hopkins, Arum said. Top Rank plans for Pavlik to fight four times a year for the next three or four years, then retire. "We've got a young stud," said Arum. "We want him to fight often and fight big fights." Although Taylor cannot back out of the agreement without facing Pavlik KO's his ass in the 5th.
Good to see a champ fighting more than two times a year :good I knew if B-Hop would go after Pavlik, the same way he did with Winky. They both did something B-Hop didn't do, draw and beat Taylor.
Im putting my neck on the line and saying Taylor will KO him in the later stages. & I'm sticking by that.
I didnt want this rematch to happen just yet.... but oh well. i do think taylor beats him this time, but i might be overating taylor.... i can def see pavlik forcing him to move straight back again, and being cought with the same punches. hell, pavlik was starting to win the jabbing contest even... but i do think taylor wins a rematch.... was hoping to see some other fights.
simps u know I picked him last time, and I wont count him out, as every1 else is doing. Taylor will bounce back I hope:yep
Thank you, Baby Jesus. Taylor has bought the bullsh*t -- just like we knew he would -- that his loss was because of Manny Steward. Taylor is going to get destroyed, again. This is early Christmas -- Hallelujah!!
I agree. I don't think Taylor can win. I think Kelly takes him out earlier next time. Jermain's in it for the money and the biggest payday he can get now is the re-match. Looks like he's even cutting down on the trainer's fees. I think it's one last big payday and then out. Don't think he's in love with the sport.
I said it before on an earlier thread, but I'll say it again now. I see 3 possible scenarios for this fight: 1) Taylor tries to win a decision by running and potshotting and lots of clinching. He'd get away with that for awhile due to superior hand speed and greater atheleticism. In this case Kelly would eventualy catch him and win by TKO or KO very late in the fight. (Kelly may be behind on the cards at the knock out.) 2) Taylor actually corrects some of his flaws; he holds his left up where it belongs, and stops going straight back. He puts his heart and soul into the fight like he did last time, and we get a BARN BURNER of a fight with multiple knock downs. In this case he makes it 9 or 10 rounds. (Again Kelly may be behind on the cards at the time of the KO.) 3) Taylor comes in and tries to do what he did last time only just do it better. Taylor's problem here is that Kelly won't clown him again so there is no Pavlik debacle in round 2 like last time. In this case Taylor goes down in 5 rounds after a one-sided beat down. In any case JT gets knocked out one more time. However, props to Taylor. I'm almost 100% sure that he is the only fighter who ever got Pavlikated, and then had the balls to ask for a rematch! Boo
