I say hell yeah. Let's get it on again. I'll say it again, a different ref might have stopped that fight and then what would we have? We would have a legitimate and suddenly dominant Middleweight Champ in Taylor and an overrated, china-chinned White Hope in Pavlikl. Sorry, but that is how this world works. Obviously, the right decision was made by the ref and the fight continued.....Pavlik was able to show that he wasn't overrated, and came back in a spectacular fight to KO Taylor. The reason I want to see a rematch, well there is two reasons: 1. Taylor had him badly hurt and was on the brink of Victory in the 1st fight. 2. There are obvious things Taylor can improve to make the outcome of a rematch different.....stamina and keeping up the left (which might be a result of poor stamina) well there's 3 reasons... 3. It was an amazing fight, and the rematch will be equally exciting I hope. :good I'd pick Pavlik KO again though :yep I really don't think Taylor CAN improve his stamina
Any insight to the muscular make-up of the "Superior Black Athlete" Jack, and why Pavlik could never beat him? :think
I don't think so at this point. A second ko loss to Pavlik could essentially end his career as an upper echelon fighter. Pavlik has the style and power to cause Jermain real problems at whatever weight class. I think it would be smarter for Jermain to win a belt at 168 and build a name there then have a rematch with Pavlik that has major title implications.
It would have been dumb for him not to. Even if Pavlik destroys him in the rematch, he has the excuse that Pavlik just had his number, and he still has wins against Hopkins and Spinks and a draw vs Winky on his resume. It would take much longer for him to build up to another big money fight if he didn't take the clause, and who's to say he wouldn't lose again on the way up? Let's just hope he goes back to being trained by Ozell Nelson though. He really seemed to regress under Steward, and I think it's quite possible that he just performs much better when he has to deal with a less demanding style.
So do u think taylor is going to knock pavlik out if they fight again? Kinda like you thought taylor was going to knock out pavlik the first time--How did that work out?
The rematch is definitely going to happen probably in Feb. and it will be at 166. I think the decision on Taylor's part was tough. Does he want to get back into the ring with the man that not only was the first to beat him but KO him. Also, the fight was pretty even and he knows Pavlik can take his best shot and come back at him, these things don't bode well for his confidence. But he did have Pavlik hurt and he can make a couple of adjustments to make the fight last a little longer and possibly even change the outcome. I think it comes down to the fact of pride, Taylor thinks he can beat Pavlik and wants to show the world. There is no better matchup for either guy right now and no match up will make more money. I think the added weight will help Pavlik more than Taylor, but I guess we'll see. Only thing that sucks is I have a feeling we will have to pay to see this one.
Pavlik won't drop his hands and show boat and get caught again so he won't be going anywhere. Taylor on the other hand has an appointment with ***** street.
Taylor has balls, seemingly. Unfortunately, after another fight with Pavlik he probably won't have any brains.
this catch weight is bull****. if Taylor really wants to avenge his defeat, he should have to do it at 160.
It's smart if Taylor wants to be spawled on the canvas again. "Did I get knocked out?"- Taylor after Pavlik nearly decapitated him.
The catch weight thing was because Taylor thought he couldn't make 160 anymore, now says he can make it but he has no right to enforce a rematch at 168....and WHY would pavlik let him change it to 160 for a title rematch when pavlik can fight taylor, get KO'd and still be THE middleweight champ.
The catch weight was what they had in the contract. Taylor had been saying he was moving up in weight after the Pavlik fight so they made the rematch clause at 166. Taylor probably feels he has a better chance at winning at a higher weight because he will be stronger and won't be as drained in the later rounds. I think the weight increase helps Pavlik more. He will be a stronger puncher but I also think Pavlik gets his legs back and can move better at a higher weight. Whatever happens, this should be another great fight, lets just hope we don't have to pay for it.
Hell yes he should invoke his right to the rematch:deal why not he nearly won the 1st fight in the 2nd round!!!:thumbsup it's his 1st loss what's the problem every fighter loses at somepoint in their career! Pavlik will lose sometime too that just shows JT HAS HEART AND BALLS TO GET IN THE RING WITH A GUY THAT PUT HIM ON HIS ASS!!:good I just hope the rematch is as good as the 1st fight!!:blurp
