I like the changes in nutrition. I find it shocking that JT said he didn't know much about nutrition! I really like the leg presses and squats. Jermain has scrawny legs, and I said a long time ago I would try and rearrange his physique a bit. He needs to actually get rid of some of that mass around his shoulders and build up his legs.
Let's hope it helps. I'd have liked him building his legs with more ROAD WORK though. Also some low weight/high rep training for his arms and shoulders for endurance.
Most boxers i feel are heading in the direction of eating very little meat, and exclusively to fruits and veggies......even arreola recently was talking about this......bradley is a vegan, pacquiao doesnt eat a very high meat content as well.....
It is weird they didn't mention it but I doubt he's dropping off any on his road work from previous camps. He ran 5-6 miles/day before the Froch fight. He has said the emphasis this camp is really making sure his legs are there during the championship rounds. Hopefully combining road work with the strength training would be part of the strategy.
Reports on road training I remember are these. He preferred a treadmill in his room over actual running. (I think that one was from Manny Stewart) Someone who said they had seen both JT and Kelly Pavlik do road work said JT is a MUCH slower pace that KP. (perhaps a common sparring partner? it was a poster to this site) As Boo pointed out, his legs were always kind of small for his top.
Agreed on all counts. He said himself after the Froch fight that he ran 5-6 miles a day in camp, but it took him 45min - 1hr to do it. That's a pretty slow pace for a professional athlete at his level.
I like Taylor - he's fought top class opponents & has achieved a lot in his career! In a way I'd like to see him win the whole tournament because I do think people are selling him short in repect of the tournament! He's a top-class fighter & a case can be made that he's fought better competition than any other guy in the tournament? He's got a very hard assignment in front of him in Abraham. I mean, it just seems no matter what the guy gets hit with, no matter how many times, he just keeps coming for you. Without doubt one the most durable guys out there! At the higher weight, I think Abraham will be even stronger, perhaps even faster as he won't be struggling as much to make weight!
Amazing right? Considering stamina has been this guy's achilles heel his ENTIRE career. Forget the eating and the special sparring time - how about uphill sprints and interval running and distance running with a weighted vest???? Dude, this guy had all the potential in the world but he's an 8 round fighter, and that doesn't cut it at this level. If he's got the stamina to put Pavilk away in Round 2, he's the top dog right now. But he gassed out, got tired, and got KO'd. Same thing with the Froch fight - the guy just needed to move laterally and keep his hands up for five more seconds. Incredible how these guys have marginalized roadwork....
I've said this many times but oh well i'll say it again, how can anybody hate Taylor? The man has proven he'll fight anybody. I'm praying big time that Taylor wins the tournament in which finally some Taylor haters will show Taylor respect in which Taylor truely deserves.
Pretty slow? Here are results of last years local 10 K run. (10 k is roughly 6 miles) He would finish behind the 84 year old geezer. Then again, so would I.
