Sky Boxing had a horrible year and 2023 doesn't look any better. All the good fights seem to be PPV and we're stuck with Billam-Smith v some Armand or Tasha Jonas headlining non-PPV events.
It deserves to bomb. I'm not paying after watching the stacked judging in the first fight in case they serve up more of the same. The only reason this fight is taking place is because the first fight left a stench that's following Taylor around. I find myself enjoying the smaller cards, some of Channel 5's from this year have been great fun. Competitive fights without the extended ring walk nonsense or other shobiz trappings. I don't care so much if the level is not the highest as long as I'm watching 2 fighters with a genuine chance of winning the bout.
Taylor v catterall is a good fight but no way it’s PPV worthy. Running the risk of sounding like a total horrorbag I don’t think there’s a fight in boxing right now that’s PPV worthy. I don’t think there’s any PPV worthy fighters. Fighters are PPV worthy as they are highly entertaining and command a huge purse. Is Fury really the next Mike Tyson? Is it life or death if you miss GGG v Canelo 4? Eubank v Smith will be a good fight but I doubt many will watch it multiple times over the years on YouTube.
I know the lower weights aren't as popular but a couple of years ago I think Loma was worthy, a smaller guy fighting above his natural weight and coming through via peerless technique. Crawford v Spence has sadly jumped the shark now, that promised much. At present the one fight I'd really not want to miss would be Beterbiev vs Bivol. Again, maybe not a mass seller outside of boxing fans, but a great potential match-up.
What the hell has happened here ? My take on it was that Taylor v Catterall was off because of the Taylor foot injury... Catterall would be out next month in a tick over fight until Taylor is fit and they can get the rematch on ?
they probably realised nobody cares about the rematch Taylor v Teo is a great fight and should have happened a year or two ago tbh
I do find it really bizarre how much some people seem to want to twist the knife for Catterall. Like his style or not, we all know he won the fight and he should be reaping the rewards of that now. Some Taylor fans (I’m a Taylor fan too for record) seem to actually be taking some pleasure in him being left empty handed. Can’t get my head round it at all.
It's ridiculous. The facts are Taylor agreed to a rematch and then continued to get out of it. He talks a lot but I don't think he wants to fight Catterall.
