People say that Taylor's jab will reapear and that he will become a master boxer overnight. If this is the case, why would he let the smaller man in Winky gain an advantage by forcing Taylor to fight his fight. The way to beat a guy like Winky who's footwork isn't what it used to be is to keep the fight in the center of the ring, much like Hopkins did. Taylor instead was bullied into a corner by a smaller man and pulled out a controversial draw. Against a Ouma, Taylor was again bullied into a corner by a smaller man who lacked power but threw in great volume. He was unable to deter this man and was again bullied into a corner. Instead of moving around the relatively unmobile Ouma, (when compared to Taylor, supposedly), Taylor played right into his opponents hands. If Taylor only had height and reach he could have taken advantage of Taylor's reluctance to keep his guard up and hammered him with right hands. And if Ouma had a punch, it might have bee Ouma stepping in the ring with Pavlik. Pavlik is not without his flaws as well. Taylor is faster, but contrary to what Steward said, I question his advantage in precision as Taylor has been known to wing shots. From a technical standpoint, I'd say that Pavlik is better. He just lacks the natural athleticism that Taylor has. What does athleticism mean though when in the last few fights, you've been stiff and predictable? Doesn't that negate this advantage? The fact is, Taylor has been in the game long enough to fix his defeciencies, and at this point in his career, as champ he should have, but the fact is he HASN'T. Just like the old adage, "you can't teach old dogs new tricks," this will apply to Taylor as well as he is again eventually, almost inevitably trapped in the corner, with nowhere to run. This time though his opponent is a big, hard hitting, true middleweight that KO's everything in site. While Jermain may look good in the beggining of the fight, using his jab and movement to prevent Pavlik from cornering him, as Pavlik is often there to be hit, but in time he will be in the same position he's been in his last few fights. And if Taylor chooses or is FORCED to slug, Pavlik's power and chin will chop him down and there will be a new middleweight champion. Pavlik is taking this fight for much less pay than other fighters would have demanded. He wants this more than anything and his determination alone will win this fight. Pavlik is going to KO Taylor.
Well that's certainly true. The thing about Taylor is, he has a pretty good chin himself and Pavlik is there to be hit. I'm not convinced that Pavlik is as great as he looked against the sitting duck Miranda, but he may be good enough to finally make one of those close calls that Taylor is always in go his way.
I dunno Taylor looked pretty hurt by a BHOP counter in their first fight, he was almost out and was saved by the bell. Arguebly Pavlik has more power to do so, and all Taylors been fighting are featherfisted jr.middles.:deal
Taylor didn't want to be in this fight, but he had no choice. Pavlik is putting him to bed. No question in my mind about it.
Pavlik definitely has more power than Hopkins, but can he LAND that power on the more athletic Taylor without eating big shots himself is the question...an older, smaller McKart was boxing Pavlik on even terms until Pavliks power started to take its toll, and Taylor is a huge 160 also with power...so Taylor's speed will be the difference...
atsch Pavlik came in at 170 for the Miranda fight, Taylor came in at 169 versus Spinks, yeah Taylor has more speed, but not that much more, hes not a defensive fighter so hes gonna get hit, no question bout that.:deal
he fights big competition but doesnt beat them soundly, or really even beat them. Lost both to Bernard and Winky, and arguably lost to Spinks. Jermaine "Boring Intentions" Taylor
I think Pavlik's the hardest puncher in the division, and I'd say the same even if Hopkins were there. If we're talking defense, then obviously Hopkins is better- but Pavlik's punch is no joke. If Hopkins can rock Taylor, Taylor better hope Pavlik doesn't land much period.
i was actually saying that Taylor is a big 160 LIKE Pavlik...and Pavlik is going to hit also, by a puncher with more technique, speed, and stamina than Miranda...
Actually Taylor does NOT have that good a chin - which is WHY he has been fighting NOTHING but light-hitters from lower weight classes since Hopkins put him on ***** street.:yep When he fights Pavlik, it will clear to EVERYONE exactly WHY Taylor has avoided punchers and legitimate MWs. I expect this fight to last no more than 5 rounds, and with Taylor out cold on the canvas, HBO won't be able to get him a gift decision THIS time!!:-(
lol @ Taylor having a pretty good chin. Oh yeah, Ouma..Spinks..Wright..Joppy..and Hopkins are all very good punchers.
How can you even questions Taylor chin, he's never been down..pro or amateurs. Pavlik has been down twice already in the pros so who's chin has a question mark?
