Ok, Imagine Taylor faced Ward and not heavy handed Abraham. Given Ward's ever so soft punching power Taylor could easily outbox him over the fight and not be sparked out like he usually is. Taylor outboxed everyone, had the combo of great speed and footwork, Ward hasn't faced anyone of this mould, he went life and death with Bika and despite a massive gap in speed, didn't look anywhere near as impressive against robotic Froch as Taylor did till the last gasp KO. One other huge aspect, Taylor has the speed to land a power shot on Ward, now Taylor has great power and well, a shoe salesman popped Ward down on his way to beating him, could it be a KO win for Taylor? Can anyone see Ward beating that Taylor and why?
Taylor was a glass jawed HBO hypejob given several highly dubious decisions on his path to finally getting shattered against Pavlik.
So as you described them both nearly, as only Taylor has the power, the first glass to shatter will be Wards;:yep
prime Taylor was deadly, but still wouldve gotten schooled by SOG. current Taylor would probably get KO'd. also his stamina has always been shitty. he's a frontrunner.
Who has Ward faced with Taylors ability? the only one close would have been Dirrell, but he has a glass heart and lacks the offensive arsenal Taylor had. I see Taylor Ko'ing Ward if anything, Ward's never proven he can cope with speed, let alone speed and power.
what about Dawson? it only took him two rounds to adjust to his handspeed.. ward is too crafty for Taylor. skills & intellegence > speed & power
By the time Taylor fought Abraham, his explosiveness and speed were in full decline. Not that he would've ever beaten Ward, but he doesn't win a round had they fought back then.
Winky was about as good as Ward and Hopkins was better than Ward currently is, so I certainly see Taylor giving Ward a very good fight. It'd be a 7-5 sort of decision to either man.
For all of his technical and decision-making shortcomings, Taylor had fantastic explosiveness and a really beautiful jab. I could see him stealing some early rounds with it, plus with his shoe-shining on the inside to catch the attention of the judges.
Prime Taylor would have been competitive through round 9. He might win four of those nine. Ward would take the championship rounds. Taylor had awesome speed, work rate and power when he was in his prime. Taylor could box with the best. But and even beyond his well known stamina issues, he is so afraid of being KOd that it make him easier to KO. You can't fight scared in boxing. Once Taylor gets hit, he is a deer in headlights. He has the physical attributes, sadly not the mental fortitude.
Dawson? come on, even when he isn't weight drained Pascal thoroughly exposed him, weight drained he couldn't even pull the trigger and looked slow as hell. Don't get me wrong, Taylor wasn't superman, but he was good enough to exploit Ward. Wards defence is better but I think that is due to the fact he knows his chin is really bad as it was exposed early enough, he takes extra care. It is a shame Dirrell has a heart of glass as it would be an interesting fight, Taylor would have been a very good fight which I see Taylor winning by KO or on points, his stamina doesn't really matter as much as both Taylor and Ward have poor stamina.
