Just watched this again.. I think that is the best Jermain has ever looked- vs. a quality fighter, especially in light of Jermain's recent struggles w/ Ouma, Spinks.. This DRAW was well-justifed- an amazingly closed fight- I could see it going either way by about 1 round.. I do agree, Winky gave that last round away- what was he thinking?? this was for the championship!!! But, If anything, I felt Jermain forced the fight, and landed the harder blows (by a mile), even though both fighters faces were busted up after the fight..

But I liked Jermain's strategy here- the way to beat Wright is to FIGHT him- beat on his arms, shoulders, etc..- Jermain was in there throwing accurate power shots (uppercuts, hooks, jabs, everything) He also dominated in the center of the ring almost ALL The time..
and his punches were harder and did more damage I thought.
I'm sure Hopkins will exploit alot of these things, especially Bernard at LIGHT HEAVYWEIGHT- 170 lbs.- being the bigger, stronger man..
I'm not sure Winky was even a natural MIDDLEWEIGHT, even though he fought very well vs. Taylor
I probably would score that fight 5-5-2 even..I scored, I think, rounds 9 and 10 both even rounds..
But I think that's the best Jermain ever looked in this fight- The stuff he landed vs. Winky (combinations, flurries,), he never got close to doing anything like that in both HOPKINS fights..

I thought that was a clear Winky win.

I would've scored it for Taylor for being the aggressor, and the quality of some of his punches against an extremely elusive opponent.

Tight as a robin's arse but I would have given it to Jermaine.

Had it a draw but was impressed on how Taylor was able to penetrate through Winkys defense. Taylor proved that he could be physical and made Wright fight him. dont know why he has regressed against Ouma and Spinks

EXACTLY- under Emmanuel Steward's tuteledge, he's REGRESSED- looking just flat HORRIBLE against Junior Middleweights
I mean, Cory Spinks damned near won that fight..

but Jermain looks good here vs. Wright.. the best he's ever looked in my opinion. He was out on his feet, getting controlled by Hopkins late in their fight fight and DESERVED to LOSE that fight..
Hops/Taylor II- both guys looked liked garbage- I scored it for Hopkins by one round, but neither guy deserves to win that fight..

Jermain's just regressed and regressed- .. Pavlik is a perfect fight for him- but if he fights the way he's fought the past 2 fights, he'll lose to Kelley Pavlik EASY.. EASY....

I also agree, this is the most impressed I've been with Jermain Taylor, he looked reluctant before against B-Hop and has looked **** since against Ouma and Spinks.

Win the last round? **** . . . the general consensus of almost all boxing websites I've read is that Winky gave out that last round by refusing to commit and exchange . . . he could have won the fight if not for that stupid last round. :yep . . . and you're saying he won that round?

    :rofl :huh

There's really not much action in the round, but who instigated the action and who run away . . . it's that simple dude.:yep

That round could be a draw for all I care . . . but there's no chance Winky wins it. No chance! :D

oh shut the hell up, Winky won that round because he EASILY outboxed Taylor and had him looking confused and lost. Winky definitely landed more shots in the round, controlled the action, and didn't let Taylor really get off. All Taylor did was attempt a little flurry and even then missed most of the shots or had them blocked. Had Winky fought the whole fight like he did in the 12'th he would have won the fight easily, but it would have been REALLY boring. Winky not winning the 12th and somehow Taylor getting it is just wrong on all accounts and is only perpetuated because the announcers felt they had to make a point that Wright was giving the fight away even though he was actually boxing and winning the round, but of course they had to find a way to take it from him.

That's what I thought too but watch it again and you can see that they alternate rounds.

The round Winky won are more definitive though. But since the scoring is per round, I think the draw is just the right verdict.

It was a very underrated fight. Very entertaining than how I remembered it.

while i think i might give the slight edge to winky, a draw is more than acceptable. However, no way in hell Taylor won the 12th.

i personally thought winky won. JT was sure the aggressor but winky shaded it for me.

No, Winky was clearly the aggressor in that fight.
