You are right but Taylor could've answered in those 13 seconds and he didn't.:dealTaylor was up about 6 if my memory serves right.

You beat me to the punch, pun intended. Chavez should have given Randall a third fight after he and Don King stole the belt back in the rematch.

just rewatched it, taylor's up at like 8 or so, and steele counts off a couple more seconds, than the quick question(s) (i don't have sound on my computer) and than waives it off. if taylor's unable to continue, than chavez should win no matter the time, but i still think taylor could've continued /or that steele couldn't have known from what he saw that taylor couldn't continue. so imo taylor should've been given the oppty to at least get into another exchange to see if he was totally done. when a guy is up like that (relatively quickly and not stumbling all over the place or just laying on the ropes), most refs will at least ask him to take a couple steps forward to see how steady he is. imo, the reason steele didn't do that is because he knew there wasn't enough time and king wanted the fight stopped if possible.

steele says he didn't know the time. therefore, most refs i think would, if time wasn't an issue (say there's 30 seconds or more left) give him one chance to at least try and resume and if he looks totally unsteady or gone than you stop that type of fight. or at least most refs who didn't know the time would at least make meldrick take a couple of steps to judge his steadiness etc.

I totaly agree. Hearns-Leonard stoppage was worse because Hearns was still responding.

People often yap about Richard Steele being so biased for Don King fighters, maybe because Lou Duva claimed he was, but where was the history before March 17, 1990 of this?

The major fight in recent time that Steele had done with a King fighter, Tyson-Bruno I, Steele let both guys get away with a lot of fouls. He took a point from Bruno and not Tyson, but judging by the number of blatant rabbit punches from Bruno, it wasn't a bad decision at all.

Steele's other controversial (this one was clearly bad IMO) stoppage involving a Don King fighter was a year later, for Tyson-Ruddock I.

Steele also deducted 2 points for low blows in Chavez-Randall I, a fight in which Chavez ended up losing by split decision, by 1 point on the deciding card.

You could also say that Steele was a little quick later in 1994 in taking a point away from Trinidad for low blowing Campas.

Where was this long history of Steele favoring King fighters, especially before Chavez-Taylor 1?

If he wasn't Mexican Chavez would be top 15. People just hate on La Leyenda Mexicana. Sad about Taylor though. He was so good and ended up kind of dumb. Chavez was a ****ing beast that's for sure.

Steele asked twice if Taylor was ok, no response. What the **** do you expect to happen?

    "Are you ok?........."

    "Are you ok?........."

    "Ok continue!"

I don't think so. If Steele had let their fight go on he was violating the rules of refereeing.

Its just bull**** made up to discredit JCC. Taylor, as much as I feel bad for him, got the beating of his life and there are many haters around who will strike at this forever.

And just because Chimba started the thread I can not help to think its Pac related. Yeah JCC Superstar destroys Pacquiao. :hey

i disagree. first, it appears taylor nodded to the first question. besides, steele doesn't really wait for a response to his first question (again he claims not to know how much time is left), but quickly says you ok, you ok in rapid succession, and than a second or so and than raises his hand. taylor was up and not obviously unable to continue so a referee especially one who claims to have not known the time should have had him at least walk to better know how f..d up he was. however, a referee who does know the time and wants to stop the fight before time expires does what steele did.

sometimes i feel it was right, since taylor was'nt answering. other times i feel it was wrong, since there were only 2 seconds left. but i would have preffered that taylor at least had that win for his legacy. a fight that took a lot out of his health and career, only to have a questionable decision deny him of something enduring.

ALot of them? The only real gifts were the whitaker, maybe 2nd randy fight and the one early in his career that was changed from NC to KO. That is over a range of of over 100 fights!!! Do you know how many gifts Oscar got? How about SRR?? crowds would often boo his decisions when they knew it was a robbery. Not to mention your boy Trinidad has his gifts.

This is a BS reason.. First and foremost you forget Chavez was older than both Randall AND Taylor AND had been in many more bouts.
