It's because winning is everything, over here it's all about taking part.

Plus their selectors are ruthless in all sports, if you aren't doing it, it's :hi:

Not like here, where it's the England Showbiz XI or if the coach likes you you're alright.

That's partly why I think the England squads should be decided by a selection panel, with a coach picking the XI. There's more players getting watched live, there's less bias.... lots of things.

A lot of schools these days don't even have a sports day, because they consider it unfair to the people that aren't as gifted as others...... complete bollocks if you ask me.

I finished second in the year 7 100m to someone I really disliked and was gutted..... and wanted to beat him next time. I never did like, but that's just the way it is sometimes.

 

Sports Days now are a ****ing disgrace, Non Competitive....****ing disgraceful.

I have kids in sessions who f and blind when they lose all i do is pull them aside tell them to mind the language but praise there will to win but make sure it's with class. I try to relate to the kids and get them to understand i was like that once. I hated losing ****ing hated it..

Nowadays i work with these teachers and there so...PC it hurts watching it. Kids run up to teachers because the other team celebrated a goal to much and then the kid gets told off for celebrating.

I noticed when i work with Old Upper Class type teachers who brought up in old school days there so much better to work with. One fella was a proper old school guy. Not nasty but wouldn't let the kids act like pussies or whinge.

He had the right mentality. Loved the tribal side of team sports like football and rugby...loved the winter conditions..even when it rained he'd do his upmost to keep them out there!

I think Primary school teaching is a big problem towards kids mentality's. Teachers are from different backgrounds to the kids and many are woman and they are to softly softly with the kids although i seen the men like it as well..dunno if it's fear they get p45 if they acted like one of us i'm not sure.

 

Yeah I agree, it's all about not offending people rather than trying to raise standards, with pretty much everything in primary schools, not just sports.

We were all really competitive, our high school had a ''house'' system, basically blue team, yellow team, red team, green team, and we had tournaments in most sports.

I was in the yellow team with half the rugby team, the other half in the blue team..... some of those battles were harder than matches against other schools, and good standard too. Games against the reds were a mismatch, I'm talking Mike Tyson vs Audley kinda level, but they always whipped everyone at football.

Since the old head left those have gone.

Goes to show how quickly things in the this country have gone downhill. I'm 22 and feel disconnected from the kids when they mention these schemes and way teachers teach..

People have just gone too soft, need to toughen up. Winning and losing is a part of every day life, I'd suggest getting practice in at school is actually quite a good idea, prepares you for the rest of your days.

Hello Relentless. I did some coaching at a local school. Best bet would be to contact your local school directly(make an appointment with the Head of Sport) and see if they are interested

 

I think thats a bit unfair on teachers being one myself at secondary I know how my kids are coached at basketball and it is competitive, we give up our spare time to take a lot of the clubs on offer after school and to be fair it literally is nothing but hassle, I only do because the kids like the club I run. If a child isnt picked you wouldn't believe the moaning you get off parents who constantly tell us that everyone deserves a chance etc...

I don't know what it's like at primary but myself I think a lot of it comes down to the mentality of govt, teachers and parents combined. This current govt doesn't give 2 sh*ts about sport, a lot of teachers just want an easy life so will more often go with the attitude of give everyone a chance and parents are always prepared to give their child an excuse 'that teacher doesn't like my son etc....'

 

Wasn't generalizing all teachers but many are **** poor when it comes to sports with children nowadays. Primary schools that is.

 

i do agree with that, it isnt done on competition basis which frankly pisses me off, we don't give everyone same results in exams to make everything fair do we?

I get a lot of nephews mates saying 'Flea, show me how to box!'

They're interested, it's just maintaining the discipline in letting them know it's not for fighting on the street, it's a gentlemans sport.

I think it would do the next generation a lot of good to be honest.

 

absoutley agree with that flea, how many times do we see fighters knock seven bells out of each other and then hug afterwards.........these days kids will have a fight and then the loser will go and grab his mates or even worse in some cases a knife. Personally I'd love to sit kids who are trouble down make them watch ward vs gatti and show them how the 2 of them conducted themselves towards each other afterwards to show them what boxing is about...........must admit cant wait to watch the fighter
