crap like this is one of many things killing boxing. imagine if at the Wimbledon finals Federer decided Nadal only deserved 25% or he wasn't going to play. Joshua, Wilder and their teams are driving another nail into the sports coffin. it is already a matter of time until they require headgear in the states. Football and Hockey are under attack for being too violent. the leagues are being sued by ex players. the only reason Boxing has been spared so far is it is basically irrelevant in the United States.
Imagine if Nadal had refused to play any top Tennis players for years and then suddenly then Federer had all the titles he started calling him out and demanding things
Hearns is lying paying $12.5 mill to a fighter who's best payday is only $2.1 mill is clearly over paying. Question is how much does Hearn have to over pay Wilder for him to grow a pair and for Haymon to sell the belt.
What's stopping Wilder's management from making a counter offer ? other than the fact they are complete muppets.
He's my issue with Hearn. He says $12.5m 'represents 31%'. So offer 31% then. When referring to how Parker was paid, he talks in terms of his percentage share. But with Wilder it's by dollars. Why?
Didn't watch the video but to accuse Joshua of ducking anybody is ridiculous. If the Wilder fight doesn't happen next it will be down to money, not because anybody is scared of anybody. Boxing is a business at the end of the day with everybody trying to make as much cash as possible.
Poor analogy tennis players pay is determined by performance, the further they progress within a tournament the more money they will be paid. If Joshua is Federer, it's because he won the Aussie Open, beating Martin in the final, The French Open beating Wlad in the final, Wimbledon beating Parker. He's now going for the Grand Slam and trying to win the US Open. But the problem is this annoying guy called Wilder who doesn't even play in the ATP but the lower ITF seems to think he should automatically qualify for the US Open final having not beaten anyone in any of the previous rounds and even if he loses to Joshua in the final deserves 40% of the prize money when last year the runner up only got 33%.
Conservative projections. Hearn will have low and high end projections on the fights worth. Should the fight make the top end projections, then that 31% suddenly becomes less.
So many inconsistencies in what he says: he lists all the opponents he's 'overpaid' to make fights for AJ, but when it comes to the fight which offers the chance to become undisputed (AJ's oft stated goal) and one he himself labels as the 'biggest in world boxing' he chooses to stop 'overpaying'. Again, why now?
It was just a first offer in a negotiation not a last offer. He will probably give Wilder a split but the thing is Wilder and his team have gone into hiding. Since they said they'd make a counter offer in 48 hours a week ago they've disappeared off the face of the earth. They are not even asking for 40% now, they are actually not asking for anything at all it seems other than to be left alone so they can fight Breazeale.
