Yes, someone more dangerous, like Maidana! :-( Atleast he will be fighting another Argentinian.

One of the biggest myths in boxing, I hate this. He fought Trinidad at the perfect time and did well before getting hit in the nuts. Before that he had 9 title defenses and beat Wright & Quartey. Wanna talk about rushing, Muangwhatever fought a young Hearns in his 7th fight:shock:.

Alvarez says he wants the best but seems like a money hungry *******. Hope he does prove his worth but time will tell. Hope the kid best but getting tired of the gimmies is all. He's wasting his prime on blown up fighters and grandpas. Fun fighter and can't wait to see him face elite competition.

This would be an awesome fight, but I don't think GB will let him fight Martinez yet. I'm just anxious to hear who he will be fighting in December.

Canelo gets beat, but it can be competitive. Serg is overrated. He won't get a KO, but a decision he has to work for.

Sergio is not bigger, but you are right in fact that Oscar might try to protect him.

He also said he'd go down and reclaim his other WBC belt if Alvarez didn't move off of his PPV date.

I find it funny that dumb a$$es bashing Canelo saying he's all talk but the kid really wants to fight the best. He wouldnt name mayweather, martinez, cotto just for the hell of it. Its gbp decision to see if he's really ready. Gbp aint stupid cause they know mostly oscar about its not too smart to risk a 22 year old vs the top 3 p4p or top 2 p4p because look what happen to vargas.

Vargas had 5 defences before Trinidad, not 9.

And while I think Vargas being 'rushed' is somewhat overblown, mainly because his personal life seemed to be unraveling and so his handlers probably wanted to push him as fast as they could before he wound up in prison, so it was somewhat understandable at the time, in hindsight he could have been managed much much better.

Rematching Wright, after the thompson fight, and then having about 3 more fights for the next year against guys who would take him the distance, would have gone a long way to help prepare vargas for fighting on the next level. I would have had Vargas rematch wright (he beat Wright on his worse night in a controversial but competetive fight, I have little doubt a Vargas whos sole mission would be beating winky would have gotten the W again) and maybe even fight him again after that. Winky was a good opponent to shape a guy like vargas with and he should have been used more, especially considering the controversial decision in their first fight would give them reason to do it again. Winky is an elite elite fighter who would make Vargas learn, and work hard, and take him the distance over and over again, but wouldnt pose much of a threat at damaging vargas. They should have used winky to help mold vargas.

Vargas needed opponents that would take him the distance, despite his good opposition early on he had only gone the distance twice in his career before fighting trinidad.

Again, he had only gone the distance twice in his career.....

No matter how we split hairs on that, that is very under prepared for a showdown against a guy who had almost as many championship fights as vargas had career fights.

Vargas could have been seasoned and shaped a little more before Trinidad, there is no doubt. He had shown huge improvements even within a year and a half of fighting tito.

The difference between the Vargas that beat Campas, and the one that beat Ike, was significant. Would have been interesting to see what a Vargas who fought a couple more guys on the Ike and Winky level would have looked like, along with a year or two more for his body to grow and get sturdier.

That being said, Canelo has 41 fights already, and is a champion. His days of being groomed should be over, so all this talk of taking him slow at this point should be done with. Hes ready.

This is a very good post. I think Vargas 'being rushed' might be a bit overblown like you said, but it definitely had some effects.

This guy at Canelo's age was a lot more talented, more physical, bigger, and overall just better. He was rapidly progressing with every fight, and they threw him in against a Prime Trinidad.

Give him another 2 years , let him hit his true prime and see what happens.

His personal life was definitely a mess at times, but that was fixable. It is what it is, they still rushed him too fast and ruined him.
