Following Miguel Cotto's disappointing loss at the hands of Mexico's Antonio Margarito, Team Cotto expressed their wish to file a formal protest to the Nevada State Athletic Commission in regards to Margarito's illegal blow to the head of Miguel Cotto as the fighter was down.

One member of Team Cotto who has chosen to remain anonymous said "Antonio Margarito showed his heart and will in tonight's fight, however the illegal shot with which he hit Miguel with was absolutely unnecessary and no doubt changed the entire complexion of the fight." He later continued, "it was an illegal blow; simple as that."

Cotto, 27, was unavailable for comment.

I saw it as it happened and yes, he hit him - but it wasn't a monsterous hit and it's what Cotto gets for taking a sudden knee - the punch was in play before he took the knee.

    Sounds like sour grapes.

    Nothing will change.

And I'm not sure Cotto should be too eager to get back in the ring with Margarito anytime soon.

Bollocks. That punch had absolutley no bearing on the outcome of the fight, Cotto was done by then.

The punch was a mute point. With or without it, Cotto was still going to lose.

with all the low dipping and squating Cotto does I cant blame Marg for throwing it. Its not like the punch Barrera threw against Marquez or anything like that.

Grasping at straw. This may backfire on their fighter. if a re-match is ordered this will be the worst thing that can happen for Cotto. He needs to take some time of and get a confidence builder fight before looking at margo or any top fighter. In a rematch , MArgo will Ko him again and this time Margo will be pissed. They just need to accept the lost and get on with the healing. Why open up the wound.

There was a hit after Cotto was down.......from what I see the punch was in motion as Cotto was taking a sudden knee.
The Corner of Cotto did NOT throw the towel in until Cotto was up and ready to fight.
They saw that Cotto was on his way to being beaten to a pulp , much like Paul Williams in the later rounds of his and Margaritos fight.
    Only this was far worse.

    :-(

Perhaps this "not to be mentioned" team member was saying things in the heat of the moment, right after their guy just lost his FIRST fight.

I'd be surprised to see anything amount from this, from Team Cotto... And even MORE surprised if it's even contemplated (the protest).
