How can anybody defend this move with a straight face is beyond me
Let go of the belt or fight. Even if cotto gets demolished by GGG he would earn more respect by actually stepping in and fighting instead of running.
But its not about respect right, its all about money...

Feel you are underestimating Cotto he would be at one of the top fighters at 147 lbs if he could make it comfortable.

Why Cotto gets given a 'pass' for his shameless ducking of his number one contender is totally beyond me.

The worst reason being offered up being that he 'deserves a big payday at the twilight of his career."

What. A. Joke. This isn't someone who hasn't been paid handsomely for his exploits in the ring and has been shortchanged by the sport but one of the games headline attractions for a number of years who has been coining it in in. Stop with the 'poor Cotto' BS. He's a multi-fricking-millionaire.

I think Cotto wants to fight Canelo after Geale, if he wins he will still be MW champ. He has to pay GGG step aside money to do it. I really think if he gets past Geale and Canelo he will face GGG.

Cotto should give up the belt , it's a joke that he has it. Its just the hate he is getting is too much for avoiding a killer 160 who would have him out in 1 or 2 rounds. People said froch deserved a easy pay day after having fought a tough career but cotto just gets hammered every day.

Cotto vs Canelo is the fight I want to see

Plus if the belt is on the line, not only does it make the event more significant, but it also sets up a clash with Canelo and Golovkin assuming that Canelo wins

If Cotto wins, I assume he'll vacate the belt and then Golovkin can fight for the vacant belt

So either way, this is good for Golovkin and he'll get additional money for stepping aside

I think Golovkin will do it

I would love to see this fight but isn't GGG too big for Canelo?

The Cotto-GGG fight will only happen as a "ride off into the sunset" fight for Cotto. It is the last hurrah and GGG will send him out on his back, and Cotto knows this. But it would be a huge payday.

So far all you did was "do math" based on your own imagination.
