    Here is the story:

Miguel Cotto, the middleweight champion and World Boxing Council titleholder, has a dangerous mandatory challenger in Gennady Golovkin — the consensus top fighter at 160, and a man who holds another major world title.

The WBC issued Cottp an exception, ostensibly when a bout with Canelo Alvarez was on the horizon. That’s not happening, but the WBC will still allow Cotto to face Daniel Geale on June 6 at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

If Cotto wants to go on to face Canelo next without losing his world title, then they’ll need to make a deal with Golovkin’s team.
The WBC “won’t sanction the fight against Canelo unless they have our approval, because it’s clear that Gennady is the next mandatory challenger after he makes one voluntary defense,” said Tom Loeffler of K2 Promotions on April 25.

Cotto’s promoter reportedly is already seeking such a deal. It hasn’t come yet.

“We’ve been approached by Roc Nation already to try to work something out with Cotto,” Loeffler said. “So it just depends on if there’s something that’s acceptable to work out. The first thing would have to be that whoever wins that fight [Cotto vs. Alvarez] would have to guarantee to fight him [Golovkin] — which so far they haven’t. The second thing, there would have to be some significant financial compensation to Gennady, because he put himself in the position to fight Rubio, and without that it wouldn’t make any sense.”

Golovkin will defend his World Boxing Association belt against Willie Monroe Jr. on May 16 in Southern California.

I disagree about trying to make the fight, I was dissapointed with his comments, I think a Ward fight would have been the way to go.

I actually kind of hate Cotto, just reading this stuff all the time, i think hes getting a bit of a unfair time from fans . You wouldnt get a word if it was Froch in thered be about 20 otheres defending him, you cant call him out on anything on here.

I actually want to see Froch fight Ward because if he won, it would really add somehting to his legacy. Id love to see him fight Stevenson aswell. It seems like most are just happy with Chavez so hell get a payday.

Im always sticking up for Froch aswell for not fighting Degale when they compare it to Calzaghe as he fought Groves to give the challenger the shot that he didnt get. I dont think he needs to fight him now at all, might change if he beats dirrelll though

froch thought the ward fight was the way to go, ward didn't. that's why he's fighting smith at home at a catchweight instead of picking up his record purse in his 1st stadium and ppv fight. what comments? by whom?

im not getting into this again, i might have talked to you about it before. His talksport interviews to me looked like he didnt want the fight.
Nottingham only is unresonable especially for a fighter notorious for not traveling. Im not sure if ward would have traveled but froch didnt call his bluff and I thought he'd push for that fight harder.

    This is disgraceful.

All these a$$holes using Cotto's financial rewards as an excuse is revolting. What about Golovkin's financial future? Cotto has had multiple big paydays but wants to freeze Golovkin out as does the rest of the soprt.

Golovkin deserves the opportunity to earn big money yet he is the victim of a sport wide policy of discrimination and collusion. It has to be tearing him up on the inside. When will he finally get fed up how he is being treated and speak out? He might as well start being vocal about his treatment, Lord knows nothing else has worked up to this point.

I was a big Cotto fan, his attitude has made me less of a fan; but what people do not comprehend is that its not just Roc Nation involved, its Golden Boy (Alvarez) K2 (Golovkin) and Roc Nation (Cotto) that have to work out some type of agreement. Yet everyone wants to jump on Cotto like he is the bad guy. What if its Golden Boy holding up the agreement...??? Will people apologize for throwing Cotto under the bus...???

This just reinforces my point. Golovkin is intentionally being frozen out of big fights/paydays. It is total collusion.

I read that Canelo can make his weight ok and that maybe the Golovkin fight can happen or be made at a catchweight

i heard those where he said "don't get excited, i don't think he wants it" and "i'm not vacating". you wanted froch to chase harder than offering ward the richest and highest profile opportunity of his career, when you reckon yourself he likely wasn't interested? froch made a superb take it or leave it offer, ward left it, next thing you know purse bidding is withdrawn, and ward announces a fight they were working on all along.

And I agree with you; I was just pointing out the facts that its not all on Roc Nation / Cotto. We need to hear the whole story and then decide who is to blame; Roc Nation / Cotto or Golden Boy / Alvarez, or both...!!!

Either way, it sucks for Golovkin, he wants to fight and like you said, he is being frozen out of big fights...!!!

there's been no further statements , as far as i know. i don't believe it was ideal for either man, but froch was the more willing.
