Gennady Golovkin captured the "interim WBA belt" 2 years ago and immediately wanted to go "full", but the WBA & Sturm always found a way out, so GGG became "regular champ" and Sturm went on fighting others. The latest WBA ruling however states that the Sturm-Geale winner MUST fight GGG/Proxa in 2012, but Team Geale and Gary Shaw may already have the master duck plan ready, probably giving up the WBA belt in the process.

Geale's next opponent could be 38yo Sam Soliman (still fighting?) as his manager confirmed they went in early discussions right after Saturday's fight, and it would be highly disappointing to see Geale stepping into Sturm's shoes of "careful management". "There will be some discussions, but I’m pretty sure that it [a Soliman-Geale fight] will be the next on Geale’s agenda, so I’d imagine it will be just before Christmas." - said Soliman's manager.

Not only Golovkin-Geale is a great fight, it's an important fight as well, the unification winner would create a no1 challenger for Unidputed World Middleweight Champion Sergio Martinez aka Maravilla aka P4P Sexy aka Argentinean Balls of Fire. That fight would once again unify most belts (WBC, WBA, IBF, IBO, The Ring, Cosmopolitan's Most Sexy, Internet Handsome Championship, Protector of Bullied Women).

Hopefully Geale won't duck GGG and a great opportunity to fight for more belts on HBO, even if it's not up to him.

Martinez beats both. Golovkin knocks out Geale.

the WBA Super MW belt has something about it, because it seems really determined not to fall into GG's hands

I have a hard time getting that enraged about Geale taking on Soliman or Mundine for big money in Australia coming off a win on the road. I'd much prefer to see the Golovkin fight take place but the problem is Sturm's cushy by the WBA has set a precedent that I can't blame subsequent fighters like Geale from expecting for at least one fight.

I'd be a lot more annoyed about this if Geale ends up doing this into next year. I also think the belt issue might be somewhat superfluous at this point since Golovkin is clearly loved by HBO and doesn't need a trinket as much as he probably did a year ago.

Soliman is somehow the IBF mandatory . If Golovkin and Geale fight in Dec like the WBA wants then it leaves the Martinez/Chavez winner with those two unavailable until at least March which is a 6 month layoff (althought that is about normal for Martinez).

If Geale defends his IBF belt against Soliman then the Martinez/Chavez winner would have to fight Golovkin or would be universally seen as ducking the #1 contender. Winner then fights Geale afterwards and we have a undisputed MW Champion with 4 belts including RING. Pirog and the paper titlist N'jikam/Quillin are the only other top contenders left to fight against.

It would be amusing to see Golovkin unify the WBA belts by having N'jikam, Sturm and Geale all duck and drop belts :D

DANIEL Geale's next fight after going to Germany and making history by beating Felix Sturm in a split points decision and in the process unifying the IBF-WBA world middleweight belts, will be veteran Victorian Sam Soliman.

Geale's management yesterday confirmed the bout against Soliman after the 31-year-old Tasmanian outboxed Sturm.

South African judge Stanley Christodoulou and British official Dave Parris awarded the fight 116-112 to Geale.

The American Eugene Grant scored the fight the same, but in favour of the German.

Geale's manager Garrie Francisco yesterday confirmed the bout with Soliman would go ahead before the end of the year.

"We're not sure if we'll put the fight on against Soliman in Sydney, where Daniel now resides, or we could go back to Tasmania, where he grew up," he said.

The Melbourne-based Soliman, 38, who boasts a 41-11 win-loss record, including 17 inside the distance, earned the right to meet the winner of the Geale-Sturm bout after winning the interim IBF Pan Pacific middleweight title in a unanimous points decision over Garth Wood at Sydney Olympic Park Sports Centre this year.
"Then we can look at taking on the likes of a Gennady Golovkin," Francisco said.

The unbeaten Golovkin improved his record to 24-0 with a fifth-round knockout over the Polish champion Grzegorz Proksa just hours after Geale's win over Sturm in Oberhausen, Germany.

"Daniel's win will be seen in years to come every bit as big as winning the America's Cup," Francisco said.

"What he did in coming over here and winning has never been done before in the sport of boxing. It is a real game-changer and gives boxing a massive boost in Australia."

Members of Geale's camp, including veteran American promoter Gary Shaw, were adamant that Geale was also the first visiting fighter to twice take world titles off Germans fighters on their home soil.

Geale (28-1, 15 KOs) won the IBF title from Sebastian Sylvester in May in Germany last year and he produced another classy, assured and composed performance in Oberhausen. "It's without a doubt his best performance and showed he's come a long way since he beat Danny Bellert . . . eight years ago," Francisco said.

Geale said: "It was a very, very hard fight.

"I had to put plenty of pressure on him and take him out of his comfort zone."

Sturm called Geale a great fighter and a true champion and asked for a rematch. The Sturm camp had not asked for a rematch clause in the contract.

Geale has so far been brave by fighting Sturm and Sylvester in Germany, he seems like the guy who wants to make big fights happen..

Golovkin and Geale are the top 2 guys. If Geale is not available then Golovkin is the clear #1 challenger. Who the else is the Martinez/Chavez winner going to fight that will be viewed as acceptable Lee, Murray, Macklin again, Barker again?

Geale has constantly spoken about fighting Martinez, Pirog even AA and Jermaine Taylor.

Simply, he is honouring the IBF mandatory before getting it on with the big dogs.

If it's a good fight, a rematch would not constitute a duck of Golovkin. Also don't think fighting the N'Jikam-Quillin winner or Pirog would be one either. There are also independent reasons for Chavez to move up in weight, and obviously if fights with Alvarez, Cotto, or Mayweather present themselves, any acceptance of those bouts is not indicative of ducking either.

N'jikam ducked Golovkin multiple times and gave up a belt not to fight him Quillin turned down a Golovkin fight.

I would love to see Pirog fight them but he's clearly not as valid as Golovkin nor will it happen since he no longer has a belt and is lesser known than Golovkin in the US.

Alvarez and Cotto alot of the public would buy into as "super fights" but neither fights are as tough. Cotto is fighting Trout in Dec anyways.

Floyd would be the 1 acceptable super fight but i dont see that happening. So Floyd or a Martinez-Chavez rematch if its a controversial fight are the only non ducks imo.

Soliman has fought 2 IBF eliminators over the last 2 years and was promised a shot next by the IBF. So it's fight Golovkin and lose his IBF title or fight Soliman and lose the WBA title. This is why boxing sucks. I would prefer he takes the fight with Triple G tbh. Soliman is a messy scrapper and it would be an ugly win for Gealzaghe
