Yes, he's only 26. And really, all these fighters just saw Floyd make over 200+ million and much more by being so business wise. Anyone in any business would want to maximize their earnings, and especially when you get punched in the head for a living.

And just to follow this up, if I were devising a strategy for Lemieux, it would be...

Lemieux. Isn't. Fighting. Golovkin. 'Til. He. Earns. Lots. Of. Money. In. Far. Less. Risky. Fights.

    And. Lots. Of. Them.

Weight classes are there for reasons. Nobody has to move up if they can comfortably make weight. Golovkin is ready to fight ANY TOP MIDDLEWEIGHT. Lemieux is NOT. This is the difference.

Yep! Some fighters careers burn out quickly. They only have so much time to earn when they hit peak form, so they need to manage wisely - especially since, unfortunately in this day and age, losing is viewed in bizarrely overcritical terms by fans and media alike - and the fostering of this type of environment makes boxers inherently reluctant to consistently fight the best.

Then. Lemieux. Shouldn't. Be. Called. A. Champion. A. Businessman. Sounds. Better.

Golovkin will knock Lemieux out. Golovkin would knock Cotto out, that's why Cotto is paying Golovkin step aside money rather than fight his mandatory Golovkin. Golovkin will get the winner of Cotto/Alvarez, Golovkin will knock either one out....................or will Alvarez also run from Golovkin?

Golovkin has more to lose, and he is not afraid. Lemieux already has two losses, so adding a loss to the best MW on the planet wouldn't hurt him that much. The problem is that HE KNOWS that he would lose.

Three G and other types of fans- "do what I want when I say or I'm gonna yell ducking at the top of my lungs because it gives my hollow life a feeling of significance"

Let me know when DL does not fight a quality fight, we'll talk then, thanks.

I don't disagree with what you're saying, but this is kind of moving the goal posts from where I started with abuffy. Our discussion entailed fighters making strategic decisions to protect themselves and their earning power.

Weight classes do exist for a reason - no debate!

But my point was GGG is most certainly making strategic decisions pertaining to his career, and no one can blame him. Making wise business decisions is extremely important, and Golovkin is surrounded by smart people.

If my memory serves me right...

After his HBO debut, he wanted to drive momentum from that big time American exposure, and I believe this is when he stated unequivocally that he was ready for anyone from 154-68. But as time progressed, he had the exposure and gained momentum.

Somewhere along the way "anyone from 154-68" diverged into wanting to stay at middleweight. Then exceptions were considered for Chavez or Froch at 168, but not Ward, and further exceptions were made for the possibility of facing Floyd at 154, but not Canelo or Lara.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with this. I'm saying all fighters do it, and this is the exact type of thing Lemieux is doing, too, with regards to GGG.

Didn't he just win a belt?

And if so, I think losing that belt WOULD hurt him that much.

He's in no rush. JeffM just informed me he's 26. It would be FOOLISH for him to go anywhere near GGG for the time being if it can be avoided. In DL's perfect world, GGG abandons middleweight and he never has to face him. That's just the reality of the situation.

Rummy, you do realize you won't get anywhere debating with GGG fanatics. They're set on one thing and one thing only.

    "Everyone ducks GGG"

It's a waste of time, just some advice.

I don't understand why Ward's name is being brought up in relation to so called "ducking" by Golovkin. In an unprecedented event, Golovkin HIMSELF came out and told the interviewer that Ward and Genady were at a meeting HBO people together, and when the question of their potential showdown came up, GGG said YES and Ward said NO. This is straight from the source, so to speak. Since GGG made this statement, there was no official reaction from Ward, a man that usually doesn't shy away from setting things straight.

I can tell you when he does't fight THE BEST AVAILABLE OPPOSITION IN HIS WEIGHT CLASS -- in his next fight.

Correct, if you don't know what logic is and how to use it, you won't get anywhere.

If ducking is defined as "avoiding the best available opponent at your weight class", then clearly a few top middleweights who haven't fought Golovkin including Cotto, Lemieux, Quillin, Jacobs, Canelo (155 is MW) are ducking him.

I've been wasting my time on these forums for 13 years now. It's a favorite pastime. :D

You happen to see my last 2 vids on Wilder and Ward?
