Why would you expect him to go up to 154 to fight a fighter who presents a higher health risk to Floyd by throwing on 20+lbs of mass for the fight?

If Canelo wants the fight then he will need to follow in Floyd's footsteps that were made with Oscar. If he can't make it to 147 then he is likely to big to fight the older and wiser, health risk adverse Floyd. Not the fight I would want to see, but from the perspective of the athlete, all seems pretty consistent with the times.

But, fighting a fighter who is 20+lbs from your ring weight can't be dangerous? Fact is fighters have been taking advantage of the drain game for many years. Floyd has never asked a bigger opponent to come down to a catch weight and it doesn't seem like he is changing from that pattern.

Your statement about height and reach have no bearing on the metric that is used to judge appropriate opponent size in boxing...weight. Weight is a function of mass and gravity's affect on the mass. Hence, the reason why someone like Manute Bol can be 7' 7" and still only weigh 200 lbs. If height and reach are to be assessed in an opponents worthiness, then Floyd should be highly ranked as he has fought many people who were taller than him and weighed more than him.
