In 2002 after fighting Clinton Woods, Murad Muhammad was trying to negotiate a fight with John Ruiz. At the same time, they looked at Frank's proposal. Joe was merely an option, and 3rd in the queue behind Tarver and Ruiz.

In Joe's 2007 autobiography, he states that Roy is shot, and has been since 2004. He also said Tarver was nothing special, and he'd done nothing apart from beat a past his best Roy.

But despite what Joe said in 2007, Frank actually had talks with Roy the previous year in 2006. He was trying to get Joe the fight, even though Roy had lost his last 3 fights!

Also, Roy didn't refuse the Benn fight. Don King wanted future options on him.

it's a whole lot different with Hatton than it is with Ward. Hatton is a short guy with short arms (he couldn't fully extend them either) he didn't have a choice to be a boxer who could float around the ring. he had to become a come forward pressure fighter. when you go forward like he did, there is bound to be lots of holding due to him being tied up to stop the onslaught. Ricky did it himself at times, but it wasn't just him. it was both. it's not hard to see why with that kind of style. he never went looking to do that as part of his fight tactics.

Ward, on the other hand, did. he does it every time. he throws faints and looks to step in and hold to frustrate. especially fighters like Froch and Kessler who don't have an inside game. Ward abused that.

he did the same thing with Bika. why not box and use the supposed skill he has? why fight like that all the time if you don't have to? it's bull****. he doesn't like fighting at range and in the open, i've noticed that big time. he's scared of getting caught. so he smothers.

By your logic all short fighters should come forward and tie up this is just not true. That was the style Hatton chose to use and it worked for him very well except against two opponents after which his confidence was gone.
Different fighters have different styles. As you said styles make fights. I never said Ward moved up. I said ward fought the champ of a higher weight class which I might add I thought he would lose to at either weight.
The problem with you is you refuse to give credit where it is due. Andre Ward is simply better than Carl Froch no question. There should be no excuses. If Ward goes to England and wins you will come up with some other type of stipulation Ward needs to meet while fighting him. You cannot say with one hand behind his back because he's already done that. So what Carl Froch beat Lucian Butte....Andre Ward beat Carl Froch deal with it. Does this make Carl Froch garbage ? No it does not Ward is just better than him.
