:lol: I think Duhaupas is #15 now in June rankings, by the time the fight is announced WBC will rate him #3.

I don't think Wilder's team risking a fight with a guy like Jennings just yet he could actually beat him..

Why should Wilder have to fight a mandatory sooner than other champions or sooner than WBC rules dicatate?

Each champion are required to fight a mandatory once per year (he won the title in January) ... unless the champion (i.e. Stiverne) wins a vacant title, in which case he must defend it against the mandatory challenger first.

Well they have 7 months until Jan 2016 and it doesn't sound like Team Wilder plans to fight Povetkin in that time frame.

The WBC did its midyear report last week and said it will order free negotiations in October.

There's a 30-day window for that. If the sides can't work something out, it goes to a purse bid.

That time period takes us into November. After purse bids are settled, the fight takes place within 90 days.

It's the same rules for every champion.

And I don't think we're allowed to link but another site quoted Povetkin's promoter after the Perez fight saying that they may want another fight (tuneup) before facing Wilder, so I assume he's looking to fight someone else in the fall before challenging anyway.

    Agee.

It's laughable that some are saying Wilder is ducking a guy who became the No. 1 contender less than a month ago.

Wilder was the mandatory for Stiverne. Wilder won the title in January. So Wilder has 12 months to fight/sign to fight his mandatory, who is Povetkin.

The WBC is giving them time to negotiate. It's only June, for God's sake. If they can't come to an agreement, the WBC will order a purse bid in October (three months before the mandatory is due.)

The WBC just wants the Wilder to fight/or sign to fight his mandatory by January 2016 - which would be a year from when Wilder (the last mandatory) won the title.

Mandatories are supposed to get a shot every year. The last mandatory (Wilder) got a shot five months ago. Nobody's protecting anyone.

Hell, when Povetkin was champ, he waited 13 months to fight the brain-damaged Hasim Rahman.

And, before that, he defended twice - against his regular sparring partner (the 42-year-old Cedric Boswell) and the cruiserweight champ (Marco Huck - who beat up Povetkin).

It's not like Povetkin set the standard for quality defenses.
