Wolder will not be "..sitting and waiting around on Povetkin" when they fight. He'll be wonder what happened when he gets KTFO and the hype cruise ends.

The fight should be made before the end of the year or Wilder should be stripped for not defending the belt against a mando for a full year. WBC is a real joke otherwise.

    Next??

The purse bids arent even until October, meaning the fight itself wont be until early next year at best.

You'd prefer Wilder to remain inactive that long?

He said he has another fight on Sept 26th.
    Nothing wrong with that

the WBC is sooooo busy they cant do a simple purse bid in less than 4 or 5 months? Tyson defended his titles 6 times in a 12 month period. i
Dont blame the guy for wanting to stay busy

Yup. That's been the plan all along. Face the worst stiffs you can find to build a bogus "KO record," get an undeserved ranking and then cash out fighting Wlad for big bucks in a fight where Wilder will almost certainly be completely annihilated.

I bet we see a sept, and maybe dec. fight before Povetkin in maybe April?

There is a calculated risk in doing this however.
Wilder will no doubt be sharper, and more ready for Povetkin with 2 more tune ups, but also there exists the risk of losing the title along the way, and squandering the big money fight.

Honestly I'd pick Glazkov for his last tuneup. Not sure if he will work out from a promotional standpoint, but he is similar in style to Povetkin, and would be excellent preparation for that fight.
I'd take Briggs in sept. btw. Perfectly lined up for Wilders right hand every time.
How many rights have you ever saw Briggs duck in his whole career???

I agree with a lot of this. Wilder's team seems to want 2 more fights this year before moving onto a Povetkin fight or perhaps a unification with Wlad.

This is a risk because you can see upsets, injuries, cuts, etc but the benefits of Wilder improving probably make it worth it(not too mention the paydays).

My guess would be in September he gets Arreola or Szpilka, maybe Thompson has a shot as well. Then in Dec/Jan you can add the Tarver-Cunningham winner to whoever doesn't get the Sept shot. Those are all Haymon fighters outside of Thompson so they're most likely going to move to the front of the line.

I might be wrong but I don't think Wilder is attempting to avoid a fight with Povetkin. I think he's looking to take a couple fights beforehand for financial benefit and the experience.

Wilder-Povetkin probably happens by this time next year unless a Wlad-Wilder unification fight gets in the way but I don't think many would complain about that.

Glazkov is a mandatory for Wlad he isn't going to fight Wilder he is going to wait on his mandatory shot.

Yeah, and I doubt Wilder fights him. Just pointing out that if that fight somehow was made Wilder would benefit from it more than any other opponent leading up to Povetkin.
