Team Williams: Biggest Hypocrits in Boxing!

It wouldnt be a career high payday...he just fought Miguel Cotto, one of the biggest draws in the sport. It was a very fair offer and it not being accepted is a wonder to me.

If he is expecting to make what he made against Cotto against everyone, guess what? He will never be able to fight again...because theres not another name out there (that will really even consider a fight with him) that will command Cotto money.

And...he is coming off of a loss...

then he can just enjoy christmas with his fam .... chill out... let everything settle down and then come back in 2010.... this dec 5th date is being forced

unless shane injects another round of roids' and starts feeling brave... thats the only fight they should be talking about right now... martinez dzizurik & clotey can wait till 2010

 

In an ideal world, and in the boxing of old, Clottey would take the offer. Williams/Clottey would be an interesting fight, Williams would win and add another name to his record; Clottey would get a fight and a pay-day which he hasn't pinned down yet. The problem is that Clottey will almost certainly lose to Williams (and he knows it), leaving him with two losses in a row and pretty much leaving him resigned to journeyman status. Given that Clottey's been aspiring to fight and beat the likes of Mosley, Mayweather, Pacquiao and Berto, that's not the kind of career move he'd want to make. Add to that the fact that he's not going to be able to get a full training camp in and the fact that he'll be fighting up a division, and you can understand why he might not want to take the fight.

Maybe Clottey should put his name on the contract. But he's certainly not "ducking" PW right now any more than Bernard Hopkins is.

if this was street fighter i guess it would be all good but in the "business" of boxing its not a wise decision... **** it

Refusing to sign to fight someone a) just six weeks before fight night, b) at a weight you've only made twice in your career, and not in your last 8 fights, and c) for a solid but not spectacular pay-day is NOT ducking.

If Clottey's ducking, then Floyd must be growing feathers and hatching eggs by now!

Keep in mind tho, Clottey has called out Williams just as much as he has mentioned Pac, Floyd and Mosely. Go on youtube, its tough to find a Clottey interview without hearing him mention Paul's name. On top of that, Clottey has long mentioned that he is being ducked by every big name out there (again including Williams).

So now, he gets his wish, gets a fair offer...and declines.

You are probably right, because its not really a winnable fight, Clottey stands to lose a lot by signing the contract...2 losses in a row...not being a big name anyway...etc...but isnt that the exact definition of ducking a fighter? Not taking a fight because either you know youll lose or if you lose it could sink your career?

Clottey was set to fight at 147 the same night...so being ready isnt an issue. And lets not forget, he regularly weighs in 160-170 come fight night anyway (vs Corrales he weighed 170 and Judah 172 for fights at 147)...so weight shouldnt be an issue.

If anyone has an issue with weight, its Williams, who was on track to weigh 160, but now has to shed 6 more pounds to be ready...which just like Clottey, shouldnt be an issue for him.
