The prize in this sport is the championships and the money...not defending against easier opponents...

...no, I'm not that emotionally invested. Scapegoating other fighters, doesn't change the present facts.

    MArgo apologist.

The man is out right ducking Paul. He is not going to fight Oscar, Oscar has made this perfectly clear. He should now be concentrating on guys he should fight in his own division, CLottey and Williams.

Last time I checked, Paul Williams has given Margarito his biggest payday, 1.6mil vs. 1.5mil fighting Cotto. Williams' camp is now offering 4 million for a rematch. They are bringing him more than double his career payday, I do not know what Clottey's camp is offering. There really is no reason for Margo not to fight Paul, unless Clottey is going to give him more money.

Business-wise and for his position in the division, he should fight Paul and if he doesn't he is just ducking.

He landed some nice blows on Margo and took Margo out of his game for the first 6. Margo really did nothing that Paul didn't want.

I doubt Williams could stop Marg... And he certainly wouldn't have if he had one more round in their first fight...

    BUT,

If Marg can't get the Dela Hoya fight (which he won't), and DOESN'T go for Williams, it does look a bit sus. After all the claims of "ducking" made by Margarito and his fans, it's okay for Marg to avoid a guy who beat him no more than a year ago???

There's no rush is there? I have no doubts Margarito will face Williams again. That's just the type of fighter he is. But the last year, he's faced Cintron and Cotto. Both heavy hitters. And it looks like he'll face Clottey next. That will have been 3 of the top 5 WW's he'll have faced in one year. Does everyone need Margarito to face and beat each top WW successivly witgh a years span? Go from one right to the next w/o any of the breaks or money fights everyone else gets? :huh

Until DLH actually sings to fight someone, there's no problem with them taking their time trying to make the fight.m If anyone deserves a break, it;s Margarito.

Nobody dominated the first fight. Williams took most the first half, Tony most of the second half, and I'd agree Williams outworked Tony for the 12th. Hardly something for Tony to scared to duck a rematch. Tony wanted an immediate rematch, Williams thought he was the man and could get the bigger names. When Williams came up with no options he came back to Tony, but by then Arum had Tony lined up to fight Cotto by putting him on the Mosely undercard with Golden Johnson.

Now Williams still has no options, his embarrassing lost to Quintana destroyed all his momentum, and he needs Tony. Tony wants DelaHoya because it'll make him a bigger star with way more earning ability down the road-(and how can anyone blame him for not going all out for that oppurtunity when this is supposed to be DelaHoya's last fight). The Williams offer is for next year anyway, and Arum has Tony staying busy with plan B, title unification bout with an in house fighter-Clottey.

This stuff isn't hard to figure out, no need to hate on either guy. Paul has no real options, Tony does, and even so the Williams offer will still be there in the early spring just like in the original offer. :patsch

Williams couldn't knock out Margarito with a semi trailer full of machine guns.

Some heavyweights would have trouble knocking out Margarito. I dont think the skinniest guy in boxing would knock out Margarito either.

You know what, that is fair. Cintron, Cotto and Clottey is a BRILLIANT year. And taking on Clottey, whom Marg didn't impress against the first time, is a very acceptable move.

But the Williams fight must come. And from a "Williams" point-of-view, as he already has the W against Marg, I think it's acceptable for him to keeping sprouting Marg's name from his mouth... Will only accelerate a possible rematch between the 2.

Williams is making a good short-term move by fighting Wright for cash, but a dumb long-term move because he's gonna deprive himself of big-money fights later if he loses.

Paul should've gone after Cotto if no Margarito fight was available. Sure it would be dangerous, but if he were to win, on HBO no less, the public and fans would put pressure on Margarito to take on the fight.

But it looks like Paul wants to cash in now. If he wins, then I don't see how he'll shrink down to welter again. And if he loses, he puts himself in a bad situation. Stylsitically, he's a nightmare for anyone. 154 is a thin class with no names, so he might win a belt there, but there will be no money in it. I don't understand what Goossen is doing with him this year.

Oh wait, he's not fighting Wright. In that case, he should take a keep-busy fight at 147.
