Martinez has zero leverage to ask for any of 1-3. He'll fight Chavez in a phone booth in Culiacan with 8 oz gloves with all the cushion taken out for the big payday.

He hasn't taken punches from a real puncher yet. I don't think Rico is saying that he has a Glass Jaw, but simply that we don't know because his opposition has been completely pathetic.

Rubio can bang a bit, and Zbik hit him plenty of times. If he was vulnerable to accumalation, then surely it would of shown up there?

Foot work, must use superior foot speed to use the whole ring and avoid a slug fest on his terms, he must also use his feet to avoid corners and the ropes where Chavez will get inside and physical

Jab he is shorter and smaller but the jab can maintain distance, oddly enough he will want distance vs the taller man

Basically he should do what he did vs Williams

circle and move out and force Chavez to come in and lower his height and pop him with that right hook and left hand

he can probably get Chavez to walk into bombs

Essentially, use the feet, use the jab, use distance, get him to walk into big shots, and avoid the inside stuff, also he will need to be in his best condition

    Agreed on the strategy...
But your asking this of an older fighter.
Even older than when he landed the lucky "eyes wide shut" shot on Williams.
& older than when he beat a hungover Pavlik.

Kinda asking a lot from the old timer.

The Zbik fight was worthless in determining Chavez's Chin as he is as Feather Fisted as they come, but I will grant you that not being hurt by Rubio is a good sign. Still, these are not the sort of punchers that I would like to see him take shots from in order to make a concrete appraisal. Martinez will give us some answers, however, as he can punch decently and will certainly land with regularity.:good

    You're clearly Mexican, and bias.

Martinez is a young 36. His legs work for all twelve rounds, Chavez can slow him down, but he needs to corner him and go to the body. If Martinez can feint to allow himself room to move off, and clinch Julio when he does get close, then Chavez will have a very difficult time trying to keep up.

Mexican don't have **** to do with it.
    Leave that out of it.
(I support all fighters regardless of where they ****)

    I'm going on % & styles.
    Martinez is perfect for Chavez.

Stick and move with lots of hooks and uppercuts. If he ever closes in, which is doubtful with his footwork? Wrap him up. JCCJ fights with his hands below his chin. his head is there to be hit.

If you REALLY want to beat him? Drug test.

I don't think that clinching up close in the right answer at all. Chavez is not an idiot and he will put his weight on Martinez in every clinch situation he finds himself in. No matter how young of a 36 Martinez is, he's still the older man and an older man with a size disadvantage, at that. Any clinching is going to be an unnecessary drain on his stamina.

I would rather see him use the Jab and feints to keep his distance and set up counters when Chavez bulls in and then use his footwork to pivot out and punch his way out of the corners. Footwork is the key here. He's got to make the younger man chase him around and he's got to make sure that it doesn't become a situation where he passively allows Chavez to punch his way into a clinch and wrestle him to exhaustion.

I agree that his age to me is showing a little i think either that or he has just faced more guys with the right stuff to challenge him

he got tired vs Williams in a tough fight vs a pressure fighter at a high pace

he took a round off vs Dizinziruik

i think he has a hard time going 12 rounds in a fight where he is active

i dont know maybe know one else sees it but i think he may have trouble going 12 vs Chavez i think he is going to win but it wont be easy

Martinez's mindset is very intergril. When he fought Margarito, he said, and I'm paraphrasing, "When I hit Margarito, he smiled and I said "Oh ****".

He's used to buckling guys with shots, he's used to hurting guys. When he doesn't, he gets a bit discouraged. This will be a huge part of the fight. If he can niether stop, nor hurt Chavez, he will mentally brake down. He's been known to lapse in the middle of fights. He can't afford to do that this time, or he will be stopped.

I'm only proposing the clinch as a last resort, to negate any possible body punching. Clinch only when neccesary, and allow the ref to restore the distance.

You're spot on about the footwork. Pivot out to the right, and time the right hook over the jab of Cesar Chavez.
