Good thing for JCC Jr he isn't much of a jabber. Macklin was nearly put on his AZZ twice, once in round 2 and another in round 4, by Sergio's counters coming from his left hand as Mack came in with those drop step power jabs.

I've got a feeling we'll see him try to establish a jab in this fight. It's a Top Rank card, so activity will be Jr's best friend. Bob can look after him then.

Who do you consider to be the hooker of the two? Sergio's right hook is under-rated to me.

Chavez Jr. needs to keep movement towards his left while pumping the jab. It would negate a lot of the pop off of Sergio's straight left counter. Sergio doesn't like to reach with it, he actually likes for your to fall into it with your momentum from throwing the straight jab.

But let's be real, at a certain point in the fight, Chavez Jr. is just gonna put his skull down and attempt to body Martinez into position.

    Hit first and move laterally.

Turn him by moving his elbows before he starts firing off in close.

    Check hook.

    Prepare to get robbed.

Keep the right hand a bit higher than normal to protect against the left hook, keep the left hand low as usual. Drill straight lefts into Jr.'s ribs every chance you get, and stay out of the corners.

Jr. is going to come forward, so turn him. Move out to the sides and keep him off balance. When Jr. goes for that left hook downstairs, fire a quick uppercut.

    Julio's Son

    1) He's Mexican. Hooking and brawling is apart of Mexi culture.

    2) He's Julio's son.

    3) He likes to fight inside where the hook instead of the jab is the most potent punch.

Sexy Sergio has a great hook himself, but he doesn't get it off as often due to his southpaw stance. The majority of lefties end up relying on the left, and Sexy Sergio is no exception, look at his last fight when **** hit the fan. The left bailed his AZZ out even with Mack's low lead hand.

Here's the plus side for Sergio, what I seen is that in cross stance battles the str8 beats the hook the majority of the time. It's physics, something that moves in a str8er line gets there first.
I found that this type of jab gets people screwed over against emmanuel and Sergio.

Work off the jab to setup the right hook and\or straight left....Use lateral movement to limit Jr. punch connection\and or output...Try limit yourself from going into corners and being pinned against the ropes. Dont get drawn into slugging it out with Jr. because thats not your strong suit...Use every inch of the ring to create your offense.:good

Edit: Also, jab to the body to slow down the bull...I think this will be a tool that will help you down the road.

I think the key will be for Maravilla to try to embarrass Jr in the first few rounds.

Massive movement, jabs, and combinations. Go for broke in rounds 1 & 2. If Jr feels humiliated, he'll be likely to forget all of his Roach training, and revert to his animal self.

If that happens, he'll be a sitting duck for Sergio's power. If he keeps his cool and continually comes forward, cutting off the ring, it will be a tough fight for them both.

Martinez doesn't need to adjust his style. The pressure fighter like Chavez Jr. is not so different from Pavlik and Williams who Martinez has beaten before.

Martinez will move a lot in the ring and uses his speed to fight him. When Chavez Jr. is chasing Martinez around the ring to land body shots, he will open himself for the latter's left hook or straight left. Chavez jr. therefore will kiss the canvas like Williams.

The only thing I wanna see is Chavez Jr. will be able to get up or not after taking that big shot.

I'd say Martinez's back-stepping leftwards to then surprise his opponent and throw while spinning out towards the right (as we saw against Macklin) can be very effective against Chavez, who will bring intelligent pressure but won't necessarily be able to avoid falling for those little traps & changes in direction. I think he's going to be very focused on simply finding and staying on Martinez. Also, at times, I think it would benefit Sergio to stand in the pocket, letting Chavez's punches loop around him as he ducks and comes up with lefts and rights as he did against Williams in the rematch and parts of the first fight. He needs to stay low, as his lack of a guard often sees him get hit mid-range, as he's doing that. As the fight goes on, he needs to walk Chavez Jr. onto some legitimate bombs; he may not necessarily hurt him, but he can discourage or confuse him or damage him as the rounds go by, giving him more leeway to fight his fight and adopt a more ambush-style offensive rhythm. Throwing that overhand left while Chavez throws a straight right could see him stunned, as Chavez Jr's crouch, while defensively effective, may at times block his peripheral vision from such odd shots. So a variety of tactics as the fight wears on will be vital, as one method alone could see him take too much punishment and cede too much ground as Chavez Jr. picks up on where to throw and anticipates where he's going to be.

That's actually a good point. If Chavez Jr. is to mix in jabbing and counter-punching and baiting along with his pressure, he needs to be careful not to walk in and let Martinez walk him into something. Chavez Sr. alludes to Jr. bringing something Sergio isn't expecting (though obviously it doesn't wholly contradict a pressure-fighting tactic), so if it's going to include a jab, he better make it a weapon and not a liability, as I expect Sergio to exploit it.

If he find him as easy to hit as many people think (and past fights show) to really pop that jab out and throw a huge left hand behind it. If he finds he can't miss JCC Jr, he may as well throw huge shots from the get go. I think what will be interesting is if he does this and has continued success for a few rounds- will he get excited and be dragged into a brawl at a closer range that will suit the Mexican?
