Generally, talent can be nurtured further than hardwork but hardwork beats talent that hasn't been nurtured.
My take on it is this. You could be the most natually gifted talented person, naturally fast, powerful or tough, however a half arsed attitude is a half arsed attitude no matter how you try and paint it up. I'd sooner be someone with little or no NATURAL talent but have a die hard relentless attitude and will to succeed. Heart counts for a LOT in this sport. As the top man in full metal jacket says "you got guts and guts is enough" (replace guts with heart). I've trained alongside guys (an old friend of mine when i was still in the British Army springs to mind) who walked into the gym with blistering speed and awesome power straight off the word go but their attitude sucked. They picked things up easily and had natural athletic ability yet, still, their willingness to succeed and push through fatigue sucked. On the flip side of the coin i've trained alongside guys who werent particularly fast or powerful and struggled to pick things up but who have had a bottomless supply of motivation, will to succeed and a deep hunger to be the best that they can be. Motivation, pure grit, determination and heart can make champions. Just my 2 pence worth. Morti
