Ted Cheeseman v Anthony Fowler

I just re-watched the fight. First of all, I'm not arguing Morris is a world-beater, but certainly a decent domestic level fighter. It was a good fight for Fitzgerald at that stage. I'm also not arguing that Morris could be seen to be up on the cards - it was 5-4 to Morris for me at that stage.

Don't think the stoppage was as poor as made out, when someone's body goes completely limp like that as a ref you have to act quick. Okay, he went to one knee and on face value looked okay, but I think its telling he didn't complain about the stoppage and looked very vacant behind the eyes. If he had waved it on, no doubt Fitzgerald would have ran in and stopped him soon after anyway - something most fans beg for which I've never understood personally.

Long story short - it was a tough test for Fitzgerald and showed limitations, but also a massive learning fight and he showed he can turn a fight round when the chips are down. Fowler has never had to do that as a pro due to his opposition, and even as an amateur I never saw him really battle through tough situations (cut etc he usually went out with a wimper.)

Still picking Fowler to win, it's just not as clear cut as some are making out.

 

Worth noting Fitz hand was in pieces even before the Morris fight. If the op has done the work I'd expect a lot better performance.

 

As annoying and cringeworthy as Fowler is I could never picture him doing this.

Eddie really needs to push these prospects now as he's stated himself. Same with Warren when it comes to Yarde, Dubois etc.

Love watching Cheeseman, but he isn't going to be winning world titles or beating Fowler for that matter. He's far to open and off balance to beat Fowler. I can see a great fight between the pair with Fowler winning with a mid rounds stoppage.

Agreed. I also still think that's a great fight and hope it still happens for Cheeseman's next fight.
