Lewis was a great fighter but it's impossible to know how he would fare against the gifted Curry. Too many years separate them.
I agree that it's a tough one but that's what appeals about the match up. I'm still trying to make my own mind up.
Ive never seen footage of Lewis but from reading, he, Philadelphia Jack O Brien, Georges Carpentier, Bob Fitzsimmons, Mickey Walker, Jimmy Wilde, Jack Johnson, Stanley Kertchell, Harry Greb, Jack Dempsey, Gene Tunney, Joe Jeanette (someone whose last name is my new name has to be listed here, lol!), Joe Gans, Sam Langford and Harry Wills stand among my favorites from the pre-television era Its hard to give a proper opinion when it comes down to boxers that we barely have any footage or we have no footage of at all. But from what Ive read, if Lloyd Honeyghan did that to Curry..Im going with Lewis but not putting any money on it!
Lewis was one of the greatest fighters ever to come out of England. Bring him up to Curry's era and he'd have a great chance of winning imo.
Hi Buddy. Too true, he was indeed one of the greatest, maybe only Wilde, Fitz, can compare, as for his style, not for nothing was he called the, bashing, crashing, dashing, Ted Kid Lewis, one of the toughest fighters to ever pull on gloves, size, height, record, meant nothing to this fighter, had he beaten Carpentier he was more than ready to take on Dempsey, weighing barely 145, sometimes less, he took on the best WWs and MWs of his time, he looked all skin and bone, or iron boned as one wag called him, he took on and beat the likes of : Jack Britton, Willie Ritchie, Kid Graves, Mike O, Dowd, Bryan Downey, and the skilled and tenacious Soldier Bartfield who gave Greb fits, also drew with Benny Leonard, I don't think Curry would know what hit him, I believe the Kid would run him out of town. stay safe Fergy, like you, like your posts, chat soon buddy.
