your making more of him then he was, really just a thug that hung out with the mob.i gues that was entertaining or something,i do kno the power that were wanted him out of boxing,he was no good for the sport they thought.
Top 4 heavyweight of all time for any criteria. Just to let you know, your opinion is meaningless, you like to watch Jack Dempsey beat on big white oafs who wouldn't have cracked the top 10 in 1952. Liston is one of the best of all time Sonny Liston KO 2 Jack Dempsey
What the hell is your point?? We both agree Sonny is one of the greatest ever. So what if I like Dempsey. I like him as a fighter and a man. I dont begrudge you for likeing Marciano he just does nothing for me. Grow the **** up its a forum.
Only if the odds are better for a 2nd round Sonny KO win than a 1st round KO. Sonny's friends wouldn't want to have a friendly chat with Jack only to explain why he should go down in any round other than the most profitable one. This is if we're talking about the "pre-unlicensed to fight everywhere but South Dakota bingo halls so the mob's backing him instead of cashing him out" Liston, also known as "prime Liston". #1 mafia heavyweight of all time, baby. happy
Liston-Clay II was fixed. The first one may have been. Do you think all of Liston's fights were rigged?
Nah, just felt like having a little dig on SuzieQ's guy since he bashes Dempsey at every turn. But since you ask, I do think it's naive to think he never had any fights rigged his way given how deep the mafia had their teeth in him - it just doesn't make sense to me that they only capitalize on his downfall without profiting on some of the action on the way up. I don't have any concrete evidence for that theory, just that putting myself in the mafia's shoes, it's smart business. Rigging fights for Sonny makes them more money in the short and long term and eliminates a good deal of risk that comes with backing a fighter. What better guy to have as a front for fixing fights than a guy who actually is good, has a KO punch to start with, and is a natural intimidator?
"attempting to transform your life while risking it" is a great line. I love that. what ruins the credibility is the "Philadelphias Roy Harris"....
I'm not a big fan of swinging for a home run with the every sentence but Ted can pull it of better than most.
I like these parts. It takes a certain type of character to become the boss of his powers, not an extension of them Nowadays boxers will bite back, but when things were still prim and proper, having a figure like Dempsey shake his head was like having your parents tell you they’re disappointed.
