Last night at the end of Wednesday night fights Teddy Atlas analyzed the Calzaghe / Hopkins match. His analysis was right on. Key points.

    1) Calzaghe won clearly. Split decision was a joke. Anyone who actually watched the fight could see that Calzaghe won, going away.

    2) Hopkins was faking low blows not just to get his wind, but also because Calzaghe had broken Hopkins down MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY.

I watched the fight again and Atlas is absolutely correct. Without the breaks it is very likely Calzaghe would have stopped Hopkins in the 11th. Even with the fake breaks, if the fight was a 15 rounder, Calzaghe would have stopped Hopkins inside the distance.

I agree that Calzaghe won the fight, but i dont think he was in any danger of stopping B-Hop. The clean shots Joe landed were minimal at best. However, i have only seen the fight once and maybe i would benefit from a second viewing.

I re-watched the fight yesterday, a rebroadcast of the fight on TSN.

Ted Atlas is 100% correct in his analysis. :good

There's teddy proclaiming to know what's inside a fighter's head because he's a boxing guru. His second point is at minimum his opinion based upon speculation and at worst complete BS. I'm sure hopkins was somewhat frustrated, but calz didn't breakdown shiyte.

Calzaghe would have landed harder, cleaner punches if Hopkins did not get the breaks.

Right before Hopkins started writhing on the canvas in the 10th, Calzaghe was getting through with more clean shots. If Hopkins did not have the 3 to 5 minute break he would not have had the energy to avoid Calzaghe's attack in the 11th.

Calzaghe never came close to even staggering Hopkins, yet you think he was gonna knock him out?

Why twice try to fake a low blow to get a break if you're not in serious trouble?

Those girl punches were not going to knock Hopkins out.

yeah that looks great on hopkins. the respected in the hood, tough, street wise, ex con getting beaten by a guy who slaps like a girl.

I wasn't impressed with either fighter. Hopkins thought he could steal the fight with the minimal amount of effort (age catching up with him?) and Joe lived up to his 'Slappy Joe' tag. Not a classic, not even a good fight ... bet it took millions though! I don't think I could put myself through watching it again! I'd rather watch an old classic ......

I'm not even a Calzaghe fan, but I have to give it up to him. Atlas was completely correct and I know it sounds crazy to say there might have been a stoppage because Calzaghe really doesn't hit that hard but I could see Hopkins completely gassing without those fake breaks and getting stopped. Joe did actually land some good punches.

The best assesment I've heard Emanuel said right after the fight, that Hopkins now is just trying not to lose. He was boring, frustrating, and had no energy.
