I found the book sad, Atlas painted a picture of him saving the fukkin world, messiah type with a giant ego! The Don King book was hilarious, brutal and rotten but very good read. The Larry Holmes book was a mixture of the above two ^
I don't think Manny's doing extremely well nowadays other than Wlad. He's often described as past his prime. He and Taylor didn't mesh well at all. He's done great things in the past though. He had a great game plan for Holyfield in the Bowe rematch, and I liked how he helped Lennox improve his overall skills. He helped McCall exploit Lewis's mistakes when he threw right hands (open), and Lewis seemed to have better balance and control with Manny in the corner. There's of course talent, I don't think Ray Arcel x Angelo Dundee could be in Gatti's corner and have him be competitive with Mayweather. The criticism for Loew seemed to be because all he said in the corner was "double jab, double jab" when Pavlik fought Hopkins. I suppose if he told him other tactics he wouldn't have been criticized as much, but I doubt those tactics would've worked. Hopkins is just a superior boxer to Pavlik.
I remember Larry Holmes saying that Howard Cosell tried to molest him at the dinner table by rubbing his leg.
yeah what would u have said topavlik...not that easy when u have a guy who has never lost and all of a sudden he is getting owned...kno what i am saying
1st of all, Teddy is a very good trainer, he mostly does his best work creating a disciplined fighter and is able to nurture him to a point where he is kinda streetwise and capable of holding his own in pro boxing but for those with fragile temperaments he can make them resentful over time (moorer is a great example, shannon is another..) The fighters he has tried to interact with in a rehabilitation capacity was . ie: Mike Grant after the devestating loss to Lewis.. Atlas matched Grant with McCline in Vegas on a Shane Mosley undercard and Grant tried new things out in camp but wasn't his natural self, it surfaced early in the fight when he entered the ring he looked very nervous and was clipped by a Jab after 2 seconds and knocked over , where he twisted the ligaments in his leg and was pulled out after the first assault .. Sadly in his comeback from that one he ran straight into a speeding train (Dominick Guinn) who was on a fast track to becoming a somebody... Sadly Guinn was derailed by Barrett soon after and Grant really still has never got back on track.. Atlas kinda made Grant try things he was totally uncomfortable with , when he was completely at ease with Mister Turner .. Atlas gave an added push to a stubborn Moorer , and started Shannon on a great career start... but took every fighter only so far, neither man all of the way.. Teddy is a strategic genius , but is not everyones cup of tea.. Give me a Thell Torrence any day ..
I can buy that...bottom line is its who u have fighting for you...if they are talented it is up to you to get FULL POTENTIAL..if they are not u have to dig out their best...it is not easy and peopl who train fighters know what i mean...it is a tough and fragile sport
and then had to sit in the waiting room of his father's office with blood running down his face and chest. His father said 'if you're going to be a gangster, get used to it.' Teddy is a genuine badass, and so was his dad.
lol u only have to watch espn2 for that or u can just say "ok who is the logical choice here" and he has the other....see i just saved u money
u can love him or hate him but that is a fact...I don't care what anyone says....he couldn't lie through the whole book...people wold call him out
