This content is protected Teddy my friend, you don't think that being out on your feet against Tucker (left uppercut early doors), Bruno (left hook R5) and Ruddock (left hook R10 rematch), 6ft5 monsters, and coming back to win doesn't take mental toughness and boxing greatness? He was losing against Douglas and went down fighting, dropping Buster heavily with that uppercut for 10 seconds... He TOOK the Holyfield rematch and went toe2toe with him AGAIN, a man with a neck bigger than Tyson's himself, and who attempted to break Mike's arm and headbutt him before Mike ever nibbled. He took his beating like a man against Lennox and didn't stop throwing the right hand right up to the ending punch. Bruno was throwing BOMBS in their rematch that just whistled past his head, and Mike was in that firing line the whole time, a guy who had hurt him very badly previously...
I think you clearly missed the point of the video. Obviously its an exageration that tyson never overcame adversity. The ruddock fights were brutal, tucker was an excellent skilled fighter, and tillis was a tough test for an inexperienced guy. Thomas frustrated him with his poweful jab and made tyson work for the win. That still doesnt change the fact he never got off the floor to win, never won a fight in which he was behind on the cards, and he never avenged a defeat. Those are three major strikes against him. You can blame his trainers, his prison sentence, his substance abuse, etc. Doesnt matter, at the end of the day
From 1985 to 2002 he was only knocked down twice though, and arguably beat the count against Douglas. He was a victim of his neck being so strong in that respect!

Those are three glaring marks against him when rating him compared to other great fighters. You can blame his trainers, his upbringing, his prison sentence, etc, but the facts wont change no matter how much people whine or use fancy arguments. He had his chance at greatness. He held onto it briefly, then he blew it and never got it back. Tyson had more natural talent and more second chances than any other heavyweight champion in history and yet he couldnt regain the glory. That makes it a character and discipline issue. People are seeing what they want to see and ignoring the elephant in the room. Good fighter, great fighter even. H2h monster with a respectable resume. But an all time great? Very debatable honestly. You could make a reasonable argument that he isnt even a top 10 HW (resume wise). Teddy is a hater, but he has a point: Tyson never avenged those losses. And the best fighters he faced, beat him. You cant say the same for several other champions.
I tend not to pay Teddy any attention. He’s always had a massive hardon for Tyson too so his idiocy is intensified.
Teddy has lost his mind. Yes, some Tyson fans overrate him. But he did overcome adversity in the Ruddock fights, showed a lot of heart against Douglas even in losing. I mean Teddy scored the recent Golovkin-Canelo fight 117-112 in favour of triple G. I thought GGG narrowly edged it, but it wasn't a 117-112 for either guy.
Sure he overcame some adversity but what could he have accomplished if he had received the WE ARE THE FIREMEN SPEECH?! This content is protected
Yup. He was behind vs Botha and I really thought Frans was gonna pull it off. That 1 punch power, though
It was just a sad fight. Tyson was done at that point. One or two punches at a time and negligible head movement. He was looking for a way out in the first and second rounds. It is hard to believe that Botha was rated 2nd.
Its not an exaggeration to Teddy though by the sounds of it, he is saying all of Tyson's fights bar the ones he lost where exhibitions where he faced no resistance. I agree with a lot of his points but he taken it a bit far. He seems a bit unsure about calling Tyson a great fighter, he said he wasn't great but later said he was lol. His speech about Holyfield was great though, hard not to agree with a lot of that.
Teddy is a dumbass. Always has been always will be. His idiocy is magnified 100x when speaking about Tyson. The funny thing is that nobody would have ever heard of him if he hadnt trained Tyson for a short period as an amateur. He literally should be kissing Tyson's ass, instead he tears him down every chance he gets. Meanwhile he will wax poetic about a ham and egger like Chris Reid. Ask Donnie LaLonde about Teddy and all his bull****.
Excellent post. I like Teddy but he has Tyson Derangement Syndrome .. way off on Mike who lost to Holyfield , Douglas and Lewis but never quit and took a ton of punishment along the way ..
