Aside from the 'soccer stadium holds 50,000 comment,' I thought Teddy gave a fair assessment of Klitschko: he's very skilled, though not as exciting as previous heavyweight champs, but a class act and very popular in Europe.
Atlas needs to go back to being a full fledged trainer and stop being a commentator on the sport. His repetitiveness, inarticulateness and biases are unfit for a commentator. Same goes for Steward. Just because someone is a good trainer doesn't mean they will do well as a commentator. If you want someone who's been in the game and would do well on the air, ESPN should consider Tarver or Briggs. As much as I dislike their boxing personnas, they're actually competent and fair as commentators and would only get better with on air experience. Or how about bringing back Foreman to replace Atlas?
etc, ++ Damn Teddy is annoying, I don't know anyone who likes him. He doesn't even comment fights, he just says what he thinks the boxers should do and just whine about what they're not doing or doing wrong... It's annoying as hell.
WK was throwing left hooks from the opening bell, I don't see how he can possibly claim he only uses his jab and straight right :huh I don't know what it is about Atlas, maybe because I don't take him very seriously, but I just find him funny when he comes out with stuff like this
After reading this character assassination of Teddy Atlas I have only one thing to say. Teddy would be the ideal man to head a National Boxing Commission. He loves the sport & is straightforward & honest. Boy do we need a National Commision too, get the bad apples like the CASC out of the sport. You claim Teddy has a big ego then you praise Max Kellerman ROFL Teddy has forgotten more about boxing than Kellerman will ever know . Kellerman's got the biggest ego in broadcasting lol
Who praised Kellerman in this thread? Someone pointed out he got a job at HBO, leapfrogging over Atlas, but no one praised Kellerman, as far as I can see??
Well, I'm an Atlas fan despite his arrogance and abrasiveness. He's got credibility, he knows what he's talking about and he's not afraid to voice his opinion. Is he eloquent? Absolutely not. Are his "fight plans" a bit simplistic? Yes, but he does this to make the sport more accessible to casual fans and kids.
