this is interesting, usually atlas has the trend of always going for the underdog.....but here he didnt....that is different..... i myself think that cotto has the tools to beat pacquiao..... but i watched the quintana fight on espn classic the other night, and he did look like a fighters nightmare.......Now flash forward to the second half of the margo fight, jennings, and clottey, i do see a diminished fighter.....yes, there is some variables in those fights, but he does looked "damaged".......he still has what it takes to beat manny, however, say if this is the cotto that fought quintana or judah against the manny of today, i would pick cotto, unfourtantley its not though....
Cotto showed no sign of decline vs. Clottey, it was one of his best performances actually. CLottey is a very difficult task for ANYONE, CLottey has been avoided by Paul Williams who ignores Clottey's repeated challenges. Sounds like Atlas is wrong yet again here. Boy is he been dead wrong a lot in the last 3 years.
theres only one way to beat the mental beatdown and that is trough fighting the fear of getting stop again theres no other way around it
Atlas's predicitons against both Klitschko have been downright hideously inept. How can he not see how effective and dominant Klitschkos are. It should be so obvious to an astute observer like Atlas.
he was right about pacquiao de la hoya, and was actually quite accurate on how the fight would play out.....he said that pac's arsenal would be too much for oscar.....
I think Wladimir Klitschko is still an average fighter with pretty bad competition, personally. That said, it's painfully obvious that Atlas just likes to go for the underdog more times than not. He's not actually being serious.
So does this mean Cotto is mentally as strong as ever? j/k Personally I think this fight will be the true revealing in regards to Cotto's psyche. The sustained cut against Clottey made it difficult to gauge if there was any remanents of Cotto being "damaged goods".
The cut on the eye only proved to me that Cotto is still a live champion at 147lb. A fighter who was damaged goods would have folded with that type of injury against a fighter of Clottey's quality. It's credit to Cotto as a fighter that he not only saw the final bell, but got the victory. A well deserved victory.
i don't really think we can label Cotto damaged goods but i do think this fight will make or break him. If he losses to manny his future in boxing is slim but if he wins he restores himself in the boxing game but more importantly his mind will be stronger. Boxing is more mental than physical and this fight with manny will test in mentally. This fight could definetly make him damaged goods.
I agree with Atlas. He looked nothing like the warrior he was against margarito, and didn't have the same aggression. I honestly thought he was in survival mode against Clottey. I know he had a cut and everything, but I thought Clottey won the fight honestly, and Cotto didn't show the same heart. He has heart....Don't get me wrong....but he doesn't have the same heart that he had against Marg. I think he is damaged goods, and the beating he took from Marg is going to effect him this fight. Marg kept coming forward, and pounding cotto nonstop. Pac's fight will be the same. Manny will keep punishing Cotto until he gives out. Pac doesn't come straight forward either, and is 9934839043 times faster than margarito LOL . Cotto had tons of problems against the fast Zab Judah, and I believe Pac is faster than him in a lot of ways. Add hit harder, more heart, better chin, more experience to Zab Judah like Pac has...And you got the recipe of Cotto's demise (unless he gets lucky...)
