Teddy Atlas says the fighters today can't box. I disagree!

You missed the point entirely. 99% of successful boxers need to be talented athletes. But they are great boxers too. None of the people you stated were so successful almost solely because of athleticism, whereas modern fighters like Pascal are. These guys learned how to box AND were physical marvels. Not many nowadays learns how to box properly.

 

Yes, Joe was an underrated fundamentally sound boxer who could have given anyone problems.

There will always be flawed fighters like Pascal in every generation. He's had flaws since the very beginning, but even with with his flaws, he was able to overcome more skilled fighters. Atlas is just p*ssed that he picked Pascal to beat Hopkins, only be embarrassed, so he goes on his typical rants.

Who else is just using their athleticism to succeed like Pascal? Alexander? Whoever does not have the skills won't reign for very long, but that goes for a lot of boxers in history. To say modern fighters are unskilled is nothing more than a negative attitude, from a negative idiot like Teddy Atlas.

It dosnt matter what era the fighter was in, it how he approached the sport. The fighters that approach it as an art and science tend to fight with the same disipline and basically the same style.

 

I think boxers in previos era were better, but Atlas is not abou that, he' s about making himself the story. Look at Hopkins interviews, he made it into Atlas -Hopkins debate, rather than let story be on Hopkins. He is also a jealous cocksucker, who hates any succseesful fighter that he is not involved with---and he is involved with no successful fighters. It ain't about him thinking fighters of other times were better, it's about his hating Pacquino--or anyone else like him.

If Atlas was broadcasting in 1940's and 1950's, he'd be complaining about Sugar Ray Robinson lacking charactor, Willy Pep being overated, and saying that guys like Battling Nelson were tougher. If he was around in 1900's he'd say Battling Nelson sucked, and that some bare knuclkle fighter was better.

Most guys on this board don't really know **** about boxing. For the most part Atlas is right.

 

Atlas has an immense amount of knowledge about the game, he comes across as bitter at times, but he's right to his own opinion.

He's right, there aren't as many good boxing coaches and tutors around as it once was, and some "top" fighters have horrible flaws.
