After reading the tweets made by Atlas about the Canelo BJS fight , he had Canelo winning the fight easily and had a pop at Carl Froch for being biased towards BJS (despite Froch having Canelo in front). In his podcast he questioned if there was evidence that BJS actually broke his eye socket and that promoters often lie and that it could of just been a swollen eye. Now I may not have 45 years experience in boxing as Mr Atlas, but I knew watching the fight live that it was a serious injury and at least a broken socket , also I had Saunders up by 1 round prior to the stoppage. Is it just me or is there a negative bias from Atlas towards BJS?
I didn't think Carl Froch was that biased at all. Maybe a little, he would give BJS some praise, but he was giving Canelo plenty as well. I guess Teddy needs to see the Doctor report.
Promoters and managers do often lie about injuries when a fighter quits, in an effort to protect the reputation of the fighter. But in this case, NO, just no.
Atlas has some knowledge but asks as if he is the beacon of light for boxing or something, take away the Tyson association he wouldn't even have a platform.
Atlas is an idiot plain and simple. A bad coach with a temper problem and a lot of resentment. He's one of boxing's greatest frauds, only ever seems to speak in generalities and get emotional in the corner when it's the last thing a coach should do in most cases. All of his fighters regressed under him and he'll cry about robberies while making terrible excuses for blatant ones, so don't take his opinion on boxing highly.
I suspect this is the truth with a fragment this guy took out of context. Teddy is an excellent analyst.
A ****ing Men... And how in the living **** was Froch being biased for Billy Joe? He gave him two rounds which is about as biased as you can get.. Not to mention Froch ejaculating himself every time Canelo threw a "body" shot to Billy's arms/elbows
Yet he has achieved more in the game and knows more about boxing than you ever will. In fact he has forgotten more about boxing and life than you know.
Americans by and large are huge Canelo fans with predetermined opinions rather than a neutral take on the fight. Lol Canelo won the story of the fight
Who the **** takes Teddy Atlas seriously? The guy is a clown content to ride his low level fame by association with Tyson into the grave. Some people just need a loud idiot to tell them how to feel I guess.
Atlas does bring up a good point of promoters lying about the severity of their fighter’s injuries if they quit to save face. Warren clearly did it for Dubois. Immediately after the Joyce fight even before Dubois was examined by a doctor he said Dubois had serious compound facial fractures and nerve damage. There’s no way a fighter could be cleared to box again in 6 months if they really had those injuries.
Now, for the record, I respect the amount of time Atlas has spent in the sport. He says what he thinks and feels, right or wrong. Atlas has a negativity bias towards everything if we are being completely honest. He was an angry kid who dropped out of school, committed armed robbery and got into street fights, one of which left him a knife wound on his face needing four hundred (400) stitches. Hard not to be bitter when a constant reminder of your own anger corrupting your judgment exists permanently on your face. Fast forward to his time as a boxer under Cus D’Amato, he had won the golden gloves but had to become a trainer due to a back injury... which led to more anger and bitterness. Next he hoped to turn his life around training a young Mike Tyson which also ended poorly for him and was very short lived. Some success as a boxing trainer inevitably leaving those he taught due to “personality conflicts” as Teddy was a disciplinarian and an ass. Fired from ESPN and prone to emotional outbursts, Teddy Atlas is a caricature of a boxing stereotype now and he knows this. He is willing to go over the top, intentionally saying stupid things like a shock jock on the radio, because he knows it keeps him employed. TL;DR Version: He was a jerk in real life and now he plays one on TV and the internet to get paid.
