"He shouldn't be using his coupons to go inside and eat at the buffet.....hes da biggah maahn" Horrendous announcer
Haha. He is definitly getting a bit old, sometimes he's laughing by himself at a high pitch like a girl. I was literally laughing out when he was somewhere else in his drunk head before the Wlad-Brock fight when Lampley had to tell him to pick up his microphone.:rofl Sometimes he's a bit scary though - before the Wladimir-Barret fight, he said "Yes, and Wladimir is also one of the most beautiful men in boxing of the last 20 years". :yikes
You guys should realise how much better your commentators are than ours (in the UK). Here the commentators are general "sports journalists" who do about 4 different sports, know zilch about boxing, but still feel obliged to blather their vapid opinions every second of every round. Add in an incoherent punchy Scotsman who repeats himself, literally, for half an hour, and you get the picture.
:yikes I have to turn the volume off. Instead of just commenting on fights, he is always lecturing. I dont watch boxing to learn the sport, I watch it for the pleasure of it. Like most boxing fans, I have the ability to see and understand what is taking place in a fight.
I find it interesting that the people who like him can form an argument and express it very well, and those who dislike him can barely hammer out a meaningful sentence. Just an observation.
This is why I do not like Teddy Atlas: He berated Michael Grant in public, saying stuff like "I don't want to see all that insecurity come out". It's fine to say that in the locker room but he did it when Grant was in the ring, ready to fight, with the cameras all on him. He yaps about how mismatches are so disgraceful and a shame for boxing, but he has no problem putting his own fighters in mismatches. He is an annoying commentator who won't ever shut up. Some of his corner antics seem like he's trying to draw attention to himself rather than get the message through to his fighter. Besides, his "inspirational" work with Michael Moorer didn't (or barely) even work. Moorer slept-walk in the rounds against Holyfield (who appeared to be suffering from HGH-itis) immediately after Atlas's pleading to fight with more fire. Naturally, Moorer fought with way more passion before and after his time with Teddy, but somehow Atlas gets some reputation as a great motivator in the corner.
I like Atlas. First, he threatened to kill Tyson after Tyson made obscene comments to Atlas's 13 year-old relative. It takes some interesting and admirable guts to threaten a loose nut. Secondly, he consistently speaks out against bad calls -- anyone remember when he challenged a judge on camera? Boxing is full of garbage, and Atlas doesn't like it. Thirdly, I think he knows a lot about boxing. You may not like his style of communication, but it's entertaining to me and en-pointe. Basically, Atlas is an outspoken guy who seems to have integrity. In a world full of shady characters, obvious corruption, bad intentions, false scapegoats, and crooks, that's good enough for me.
I don't really mind that, what bothers me is that everytime it has a "Guys guys look at me! I pointed a guy at a 14 year old Tyson!! woohooo"-impression. Asif he's trying to prove himself or has a lack of attention. It was a nice anecdote at first but it's becoming kind of pathetic to repeat it over and over and over again.
