Included in the article I posted" Wlad v the Greats", several names in the business were asked their opinion of Wlad and his chances against former greats. Atlas said this
"I don't care how big he is I don't think he would have done particularly well in any era.
    He's a weak guy mentally.He falls apart.
    He doesn't take risks.
The great fighters of previous eras wouldn't allow him to get away with the things he gets away with today.
He pulls straight back,he flaps his jab around he is practically asking to be knocked out.he gets away with this behaviour because today's heavyweights don't have the character necessary to win
.For whatever reason today's heavyweights do not put the pedal to the metal.
But the best fighters of previous eras would take advantage of Klitschko's weaknesses.I know a lot of people disagree with me , but a lot of people are morons."
Don Chargin the veteran promoter said yesterdays heavies had too much fire inside them but he still thought Wlad" belongs right in there"with yesterdays great heavies.

Steve Farhood said"To dismiss him because of the era he fights in is foolish and short sighted." He also said Wlad would lose to Ali Holmes Foreman and Lewis but would knock out many of the smaller champions of the past.

    Thoughts from the Forum???

Teddy Atlas picked Tony Thompson to beat Wlad. He has a record of picking against Wlad in fights Wlad wins. There's not much you can trust about him when it comes to either Klitschko. Always been biased against them. This is a guy picked on Pacquiao for not moving up in weight like the old timers did. After Pac had moved up to welterweight. It's pretty hilarious when you think about it.

Now we know that Wlad would be successful in other eras!

not just because how he feels about Wlad, but I just don't like Teddy, he strikes me as a idiot with a moronic EGO.

The tone of their criticisms, or the 'logic' behind them, is valid to some extent but ultimately isn't really convincing.

Wlad's been winning the fights very easily of late, so if the men around aren't pressing him at all, he's hardly in need of showing more than he does.
I remember Ali looked like utter sh!t against many of his most ordinary opponents, but still won easily.

Yeah, I think a lot of past greats might or would have beat Wlad, but I'm not going to over-emphasise his errors and weaknesses he'd exhibiting against opponents that he completely dominates.

I feel Wlad's about the same level as Lennox Lewis. Formidable fighters with decent skills and ample physique. I tend to find myself defending him more, and criticising Lewis more, because their comparative rating on this forum seems to be so out-of-balance.

Around 1980 a number of trainers and experts were asked how Roberto Duran would size up to the great lightweights of the past.. Most of them gave him very little chance against the majority of those greats..

Atlas is a biased *****, and very anti eastern Euro. I'm not sure why. His predictions are wrong more than any other media person I have seen.

There is no such thing as a long tenured champion who's weak minded. Teddy's a joke. The weak minded fighters do not come back from knockout losses.

As for Wlad's defense, he's got good mobility, and high right hand to take away hooks. Due to his height he's not easy to reach, and his offense along often has the other fighter gun shy. Wlad's jab alone can force the other guy to re-set. If needed he's a master clincher with more strength than his opponents.

I like Farhood a lot. I find him on the money, honest and objective. IMO, Steve Farhood and Al Bernstien are the best media people in boxing today.

    I actually agree with this.

Ali and Lewis return the favor.

Atlas is a tool. Damn near ruined Povetkin's career.

Lightweight is the toughest division historically.
I know Duran is treated as a god around these parts these days, but I think he'd have his work cut out with the likes of Ross, Ambers, Williams, even Joe Brown, Ortiz, nevermind Armstrong, Leonard or Gans.
Thing is, most of the trainers and "experts" of 1980 are probably dead now, and people don't remember back much further than Duran.

Granted... But my point was that if you ask most old school experts or trainers what they think of the "current" champion in any division, some of them will likely allude to the fact that they don't size up to their predecessors.

Atlas laid it all out on Friday Night Fights on ESPN. It looked so easy. He had a guy just stick his arm out and hold it still much like Wlad would, than he just ducked under the extended frozen arm and went "Bam!" "BuBam! Upstairs! Bu Bam!" as if in slow motion reaching his arm to the waiting man's chin. I couldn't believe it. Wlad must be really weak to just hold his arm still in front of him like a statue and let guys hit him with combinations all over his body, I figured Thompson, Chambers, Haye, Povetkin, Chageav, Sultan, Rahman, would have his number too...but it turns out everyone is just too bad to do this thing that Atlas did,...do they not have someone who can stand still in front of them with one arm out extended and practice with? I don't understand...I can beat Klitschko the way Atlas described..why can't they..but I realize I was not meant to fight, I belong in NFL or NBA or a grocery store clerk, this era is the worst era of boxing...no men like me that hit people standing still. I'm so angry with this weak era and unbeatable Wlad, I'm going to start a bunch of threads in classic on it, predicting how the legends of the past would defeat him..easily, brutally, and without compassion.

    no. not buying it.

for once Wlad would be fighting someone with a jab equivalent, or dare I say better, than his. One of his biggest advantages would be taken away from him.

I will say that Wlad's right cross would be a huge problem for Holmes, he'd definitely hurt Holmes and probably floor him at some point. but I think Holmes with his legendary recuperative powers would come back to win a decision or a late TKO.
