Latest Anthony Mundine gimmick doesn't hold water as Geale's camp slams cheap Ali imitation

IF imitation truly is the most sincere form of flattery, then Anthony Mundine has confirmed his status as the greatest Muhammad Ali fan the world has seen.

For his latest stunt, Mundine has been sprung mimicking one of the all-time classic photographs of boxing legend Ali training under water in the lead-up to Wednesday night's world title showdown against IBF middleweight champion Daniel Geale.
The only problem is that Ali's famous portrait was exposed as nothing more than a publicity grab in the Thomas Hauser biography, Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times.

Then again, considering all the tricks, phony one-liners and assorted insults we've seen from Mundine- think "Laurie Daley's running on old legs", "I'm bigger than Don Bradman", "Johnny Raper's yesterday's man" and his latest threat to boycott the Australian national anthem - should any of us really be surprised?

Geale's manager and Grange Old School boxing kingpin Bill Treacy has called Mundine's bluff by branding him a cheap imitation of Ali, Floyd Mayweather and Roy Jones Jnr all rolled into one.
"What Mundine does is that he tries to imitate some of the best boxers throughout history. He tries to imitate Mayweather with his style of jab, by dropping his guard," Treacy said.
"He tries to imitate Roy Jones by putting his shoulder forward and talking to his opponent. And then, of course, he tries to mimic Muhammad Ali when it comes to running his mouth and being controversial.

"If he thinks that training under water will give him endurance, good luck to him because he's going to need it against Daniel."
Or as Treacy's Grange Old School business partner and co-promoter Garrie Francisco put it: "Has anyone bothered to tell him the fight's in a ring, not a swimming pool?"

Wednesday night's fight will mark the first time two indigenous Australians have boxed for a world title. It is a wonderful feat that should be celebrated.
Instead, Mundine has attempted to hijack what it means and turn it against Geale, coming out with a raft of ridiculous insults aimed at his opponent's Aboriginality, his family and finally his threat to boycott the anthem.
Treacy has hit back to make things even more personal when Geale and Mundine touch gloves, claiming the motor-mouth fighter has his definition of Aboriginality mixed up.
"You know what, I don't think Anthony really knows what being an Aboriginal or being part-Aboriginal is. I just don't think he gets it," Treacy said.
"He just thinks if you hang around Redfern in his little gang where all his world revolves, that's it.
"I don't think he thinks outside the circle too much. The North Queensland missions, the people in Alice Springs and Darwin and Dubbo and all over the country, I don't know that he's really in touch with any of them or the way they live.
"No matter what Mundine says or does, at the end of the day Daniel Geale is the current IBF world champion and he's going to remain the IBF world champion after Wednesday night."
Grange Old School has invested heavily into developing Geale into a world champion the next generation of Australian fight fans can look up to.
A humble family man who doesn't need the smoke and mirrors designed to get the turnstiles spinning and the pay-per-view sales going off the Richter scale.
Come Wednesday night, Geale has the opportunity to do what Danny Green couldn't back in 2006. Silence "The Man".
As the passers-by in the street have repeatedly told him over the past three months, almost all of Australia is willing him on.

Geale to get the Danny Green treatment and the Brisbane treatment. Australia is crying out to be humbled!

Mundine can't lose, he is a big stage fighter!

Likewise I think Bill needs to rein it in a bit, he doesn't realise what this means to Choc.

Mundine has talked himself into a corner and only he can get himself out of it.

It's already a fact! So no, we won't "see". It was a statement, you are the worst analyst ever. Nothing you say about boxing makes sense, you clearly don't understand the sport.
