Booth told Telegraph Sport: "I wrote to Bernd Boente, the Klitschkos manager, a few weeks ago, outlining the details for David to fight, the dates and so on, in a contest with Vitali [Klitschko, the World Boxing Council champion] and we have had nothing in return.”

“David has made his feelings quite clear about wanting to fight Vitali before he [Vitali] retires. We have not even had a 'no, not interested, thanks'.”

“David told me that he ‘can’t be bothered to wait for Vitali any more’.”

Speculation was rife that Haye may have planned to take the mandatory route to the title – the 32-year-old is currently ranked No5 by the World Boxing Council – but a raft of fights already organised have created a log jam which could leave Haye in limbo for months, even years.

Moreover, Haye has repeatedly said he was only interested in contests with either of the Klitschkos.

Vitali Klitschko is due a voluntary defence of the WBC and could ‘choose’ a contest with Haye, though he remarked last month that Haye had “missed his opportunity last September”.

Klitschko has yet to decide whether he will return to the ring following his election to Ukraine's parliament. The 41-year-old is also running for mayor in that country’s capital, Kiev.

However, Telegraph Sport understands that RTL, the television paymasters of the Klitschko brothers with whom the broadcasters have a multi-fight deal, are keen on either Klitschko being matched with Haye.

Haye, in Miami but not in training at present, returns to the UK on Saturday when Booth will table talks over the future.

Haye lost the World Boxing Association title in a lopsided points decision defeat to Wladimir Klitschko in July 2011, and faced ridicule after declaring a damaged toe had affected his performance.

Haye initially retired but returned last July to defeat Dereck Chisora in a grudge match at West Ham's Upton Park, following a brawl at a press conference in Munich.

Haye reapplied for his boxing licence with the British Boxing Board last November, though The Board confirmed that it will be granted on completion of his annual medical requirements, which are still pending.
