20-18 Velázquez, hammering Carrillo with a hard jab and some looping rights around the guard, walking through some 1-2s and returning fire twice as hard.

La tarjeta de Barrera: 20-18 Velázquez as well, because Marco and I are twin flames. :D

    30-27 Velázquez

Out to make a statement here tonight against the former world ranked contender (top 15 at super fly, once upon a time) is El Huracán, now thirty years old and just once beaten. This bout marks a third squeezed in since hitting the anniversary of that loss to Cristofer Rosales, next week.

Hooking off the jab, being incredibly aggressive, but in a measured way. Terminator stalking and just ripping Carrillo with body and head shots if he dares linger overlong in a corner. Desperate flurries by El Trencito, but the Colombian is shellshocked here.

Carrillo breathing heavily through his mouth, heavy body hooks taking a toll on him. Whenever he lowers his guard, however, Velázquez blasts him in the head with a straight right down the pipe. Nowhere to hide for Carrillo and running low on steam to run. He survives the fourth but I don't think he'll survive too many beyond that.

    40-36 Velázquez

Hard to see Carrillo lasting the second half of this, already very shaky but hanging in there for now.

Up through May of this year, Carrillo had only ever been stopped once (TKO4 at the hands of Chihuas Rodríguez, back in 2018). Even this spring versus Kōsei Tanaka he managed to nearly extend the Japanese two division champion the distance, halted with under 20 seconds remaining in round ten. He's gone the distance with Kazuto Ioka, Donnie Nietes, and twice with dangerous Luis Concepción.

    What the...? :dunno

    MAB gave Carillo the fourth.

    ¿Quizás demasiada cerveza?

God, those pincer body hooks. My sides ache just watching.

Pablo's a gutsy dude, anyway. Still interrupting his backpedaling every few steps to lean in and flurry. Initiating exchanges and getting the worst of every single one but no let-up in the beleaguered 35 year old.

    60-54 Velázquez

Carrillo actually boxing VERY nicely in the 7th, jabbing and sidestepping while Velázquez seems to be taking a breather. 90 seconds in, this might just be a frame on the board for the Colombian visitor, by Jove!

Of course I type all that out and Velázquez rocks his **** with a series of left hooks and looping rights off a jolting stiff jab in the mush. Carrillo recovers and boxes some more but is wobbly. Big shoeshine from Carrillo. Hacking right on the neck by Carrillo but nothing on it, he's ready to collapse.

You know what? Yeah, he can have that on my card. 10-9 Carrillo, super close, despite being visibly hurt for a over a minute.

    69-64 Velázquez

Tarjera de Barrera: 69-64 Velázquez (by a different route than myself; he gave Carrillo the fourth while I didn't and I gave Carrillo the seventh while he didn't)

    Round 8

Velázquez launching big teardrop rights up past the jab and whistling down into Carrillo's face. Carrillo riding them and stepping backwards, still getting hit and rocked. Carrillo trying his damnedest to bob & weave at mid-range, fluttering a jab out in Velázquez's face. Tie-up by Carrillo, bro is knackered. Velázquez's gas tank is also depleting, however, work rate slowing way down. Still vicious combos being put together but fewer and further between. Carrillo with his most competitive round outside the seventh, ducking and throwing no-look feather-fisted flurries blindly out to keep Velázquez from rushing him.

    10-9 Velázquez, relatively close

    79-73 Velázquez
