Tell me about Charley Valencia? Use to know him and be friends with his wife, I was surprise to hear that he is still fighting. Is he one of the best in his weight class? I remember when he won some title and They were showing his tape at the Old neighborhood Bar. Charlie was there giving me his opinions on how he fought.

One of the best ? No not at all hes lost in all his biggest fights vs Cub Swanson, Urijah Faber, Dominick Cruz, Brian Bowles and Yoshiro Maeda. That said he is a top 20 Bantamweight at worst and does have some quality wins over the likes of Tamura and Antonio Banuelos. Valencia is pretty explosive the Ian McCall win is the perfect example of that he just ran through that man.

:good Wow thanks that was a pretty impressive win! Ive known Charlie since he was a kid hes only a few years younger than me. Charlie was known around the LA area as one of the best breakdancers around back when he was 11 he was already on Tv(this is during the Breakdancing days in the 80s) Never knew he was a fighter until i bumped into him athe Bar and they were showing his fight one of them was for some kind of title that he won. Last time i seen him was at his wedding a few years back.Around that time he was teaching MMA classes at my Old High School (at night) and he was encouraging me to go down there, never did but id like to take some in the future. I Hope he can climb the rankings. What do you think his chances are?

His brother is Security at my sons High School he also fights MMA Jay Valencia but hes not as good as his brother I think he also lost to that guy Faber. Hes a short dude but buffed out and looks like he could whup ass, my son thinks hes mean looking(Jay Valencia)

Cool stories man. I had never heard of Jay just checked his record noticed hes 2-4 but 2 of those losses came to former WEC Champs Urijah Faber and Cole Escovedo so theres no shame in 2 of those losses.

Yey my son said the kids at School laughed behind his back cause he got knocked out.:-(. But to scared to let him hear them.

What do you think of Charlies chances at a title? Or against the best in his division. Is he what you would call a fringe contender in Boxing?

Charlie is a high level gatekeeper but he is riding a 3 fight win streak I could see him winning maybe 2 more fights and earning a title shot but the competition is going to go up and whenever it does for him he loses. Right now he is at 135 and Brian Bowles is defending vs Dominick Cruz on March 6th and Valencia has lost to both men so he has a slight chance of earning a title shot but I wouldnt bet on him getting one or winning it.
