I don't know much about him. I've only seen clips against his fight against the great Carlos Monzon and he looks like a great talent to me. I've heard he was a natural Welterweight who went up to 160 to challenge the great Argentinian. How good was he at 160? How good was he at 147? What was his resume like, era quality and any noticiable opponents he didn't face? What was his style like? Thanks a lot, there is only so much boxrec and other sites tell you, I'm particulary interested in his resume depth as I believe thats the best indicator of a boxers achievements.
i have this thing against lazy ass people...maybe you could research the info instead of commenting on me **** goblin :good
Check the post GPater made on your thread in the Classic, he gives you a good break-down of Napoles in general. A smooth style, world-class footwork, very good offensive skills and power in either hand.
He IS researching. He is posting a question on a forum where people discuss such things. Im sure you can easily rattle off all the answers for him...just you couldnt be bothered right? Seems a bit hypocritical. :tong Or is it you just really dont know them? Ill take the latter.
Well that kinda defeats the object of a boxing forum dosen't it. I think he may have after peoples expert opinion on the man. Why he chose the gf is beyond me.
in real short, napoles was a brilliant slick smooth boxer who happened to have incredible power in his left hook. great mover, good speed, awesome power and solid fundamentals as well as a natural combination puncher. his downfalls were a shitload of scar tissue around his eyes which caused him to the bleed easily as well as being more of a natural 135-140 pounder; he lacked strength at even 147. billy backus who was not all that much was able to bully him around at welter. he had no business in the realm of middle and the monzon fight is not representative of his brilliance
And this isnt research? Why thanks you. Do you really think he lacked strength, obviously he wasnt the strongest but except from backus and Muniz who were 2 very very strong guys he seemed to have good strength.
hmmm, good point but it's more he lacked strength to move up in weight. he had only average strength at welter, relying much more on his skills. but you're right, he wasn't weak by any means
He only lost to Backus in their first fight, again due to cuts stoppage. He was never properly stopped in his career outside of the Monzon bout when he was on the slide and horribly out-matched physically. He sliced and diced Backus up accordingly in their rematch. A word of advice to the threadstarter, don't post questions about old school fighters in the General Forum. It will get you nowhere.
