Pretty good Cruiser from what I've read and heard. But not someone who's career I've seen much of. Anyone have anything to share?
Well, I wen to school with his nephew. I actually don't know all that much about Crous myself, other than that he was a honest-to-goodness type fighter what you saw is what you got. He was a gutsy, very well-conditioned fighter who gave it everything in every fight. Not the most talented guy in the world and he had a leaky defense, but still a useful cruiser who was unlucky to run into Dwight Qawi. He won through conditioning and heart a lot of the time, but against a force like Qawi that is not enough. His title defense against Randy Stevens is a peach. The last minute or so of the fight was tremendously exciting...both guys swinging for the fences in an all-out war.
Thanks fist. If I can find some of his stuff on youtube I may check him out. I like stories about fighters who got to where they got through old fashioned hard work and will power.
This is rounds 1 and 2 of his title fight with Ocassio. (The rest is on youtube) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ow0rVbog5mI If you skip to 3:20 of this vid, there is footage of the last couple of minutes of the Stephens fight. (Commentary is in Afrikaans, so you won't understand a word. ) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n5QcCmik7bI Crous was very much of the 'hard work and willpower' variety. It's actually quite interesting because looking back at his record on boxrec, he didn't fight much international competition. Most of his fights were against local guys who few here would know.
