Hi all. I have heard two great fighters/legends mention Salvador Sanchez as a man to watch as he's a complete fighter and is basically awesome. so I did my research alittle, he had a almost non existant amateur career with onlyu 4 fights. it seems like he doesnt over do anything technically, mixes everything in well. seems like he can do it all. i watched his highlight and i notcied he was slapping with his right hand at time ala calzaghe (sometimes) he seemed like a volume puncher. My two questions. 1) Was he any good at infighting? And im not exactly expecting toney or qawi like infighting but could he do it? like for example calzaghe infought in bursts against kessler and rjj. 2) was he a volume puncher? thanks- looking forward to the responses
Not so much an infighter, but we're then reminded of how he rumbled in close with Gomez and worked quite a bit inside with Nelson. The truth is though, he liked to mix distances and angles a lot. Very much a volume puncher, yes. Not a one-punch guy at all. His unusual stamina meant he could throw forever and not get tired.
:good I'm amazed to learn he beat guys who had very good amateur pedigrees, went to olympics and SS ko's them in the pro ranks with little amateur experience. he also fights like a veteran at such a young age, i can only imagine SS if he reached his 30's! and yes, the more i watch i see he doesnt waste his punches, but doesnt throw clusters and clusters. he has power and like to mix up where he fights (inside or outside)
You should check out his pre-title fights, some of which are on youtube, like Rozelle, Andere, fights like that. He fights more aggressively there, still sharp but not as polished or as seamless a boxer. He learned fast.
He was one of the most composed and relaxed fighters I've ever seen. He never lost control and was diffucult to rattle. His poise was uncanny.
sanchez had such a style perfect for winning boxing matches, good stamina and reach, versatile, smart, tough, understood distance and angles. to beat him you probably gotta stop him(at least over 15).
Well said, SSF:good. It's outrageous what he accomplished at such a young age!! His boxing IQ was through the roof!
