:rofl Alright, alright.. Not necessarily iron considering the other fighters who really could lay claim to such. Do have to love how Sal could eat bombs without even changing his facial expression though.
Salvador Sanches could use the one minute interval between rounds to achieve a resting-state heart rate. When sparring, he could also tell you with amazing accuracy what his heartrate was at any given time. This is highly unusual in a fighter. Fighting as furiously as he did, you'd think you wouldn't have time to consider anything else. I often think of cyclist champion Indurain, who had an amazingly low heart-rate. Just another form of physical talent, I guess. Not as visible, but damn useful and he made the most of it.
Marvel. The more I watch the more I want him top at feather. Such a shame His accuracy, stamina, power, chin....I know why Hands is such a big fan :smoke
Many still consider him the greatest Mexican ever even at only 23.The guy had so much talent/potential think he would've been up there with Robinson,Armstrong, ali, pep Louis ect had he lived longer. He had all the intangibles of a great fighter.Talent, skill, work ethic, heart, granite chin, legendary stamina, speed, power I can go on & on.Definitely the greatest featherweight ever that's saying a lot considering his age & he was just scratching the surface of his unlimited potential. The legendary Chavez idolized him & Roy jones studied him just thought it was worth mentioning.
Sanchez was the first Mexican born at JFK airport and worked as a youth as a door-to-door bubble gum salesman in the poor, gum addicted ghettos of Sinaloa. One of the many in the sixties. He dragged his heavy gum sack with his left hand only, strengthening the world famous left hook of his, says Sanchez biographer and Crimean war veteran Colonel Jefferson "Whitey" Corngood II. In mid-1971 he was given a world title shot at the age of 16, after some seven years of hauling around that old gum sack in 90 degree Fahrenheit heat, now conditioned for anything that would or could take place inside a prizefighting ring, aka THE SQUARED CIRCLE. He lost that fight but would go on to become known as maybe the greatest of his era and now has a famous and finely-groomed nephew. Source: 2002 Wikipedia
He's not 'definitely the greatest featherweight'. Again, seems the Castillo, Cowdell and Ford bouts never happened and Sal' was completely infallible.
Ayeee.. He fought to the level of opposition. At times. :hey No, you're right here Flea. Do appreciate how you never go off the hinges with it though in regards to Sal. You recognize he was great, and the respect is obvious.
I never go off with the hinges with anyone!!! Although...I'm starting to think that some of my opinions are seen as insane...but yeah, Sanchez is great and one of my favourite fighters to watch, as is, to a lesser extent, Ricardo Lopez, who some (not you I'm sure) think I flat out hate and see as a joke.
Well you're entitled to your own opinion just giving my 2 cents.Didnt mean he was clearly the best or by far,in no way did I mean to disrespect any other greats. But he is considered by many as the greatest featherweight maybe not all.
