Good stuff Oh man, Sound s like Zale was in some mini wars. He probably loved it too. Excellent fighter.
I’ve never even watched him fight. Never crossed my mind. I’ve watched a little bit, found him meh, moved on. Historically he might be important but a lot people usually watch guys because there is an unspoken “classic” rule to need to know certain fighters or be labeled as “General that way” like that’s an actual insult. Anyway mini rant over.
Obviously whatever footage you Can find if the Graziano fights. The Cerdan fight is almost in full if I remember correctly and a good fight at that altough he was past it. There is also some footage of a amateur 30s amateur fight he lost to Melio Bettina. The Al Hostak clip is fun too. Not much footage but always a fun read aswell.
Credan, I think that could be fun. Two birds one stone. Been meaning to watch more of Credan, he lost to LaMotta and was in sub-par condition for the fight apparently, I have seen a total of 7 or so minutes of him.
I dont think he was in sub par condition but was handicapped with a dislocsted shoulder from a push down from round 1. Basically fought one handed all fight but gave a decent account all things considered. Another great fun fighter s Cerdan. Been recently watching and reading about perennial MW contender Cyrille Dellanoit-best known for having a quick go and quit vs Sugar Ray Robinson in the summer European tour of 1951 in Turin. It was the fight before Ray lost to Turpin. Dellannoit had a go but was primitive next to Ray,got brutally knocked down and did a quit job I’m sure even bu today’s standards was not well received. But before that he had a storied European career and in 1948 was the first in over 100 fights to defeat Cerdan at Heysel Stadium in Brussels. There is a small clip of this on youtube aswell, appare tly a great fight. Only after Marcel had beaten him in a rematch 2 months later did he get his title shot. Delannoit also held wins over Kid Marcel and back to back wins over almost champ Laurent Dauthuille. The European middleweight scene of the time was really strong. Guys like Jean Stock,Luc Van Dam and Jean Walzack deserve some praise aswell.
Thanks for going through the effort to explain that so well. I love the free history lessons, I’m not great at research I read a bit, but obviously not as much as the real fans like you, appreciate it. I’ll look into him.
I like history in general so obviously boxing history was evidently one of my passions. Truth be told I only watch modern boxing for betting purposes-I’m sick of it and it s politics. The humber if great fighters actively you count on one hand.Embarassing. Old time boxing is much more interesting to me. I forgot to mention Dellannoit had two boxing brothers aswell Edgaard and Ethienne, neither amounted to much altough Edgaard did go to the 1948 Olympics where he bowed out first match. Like many Dellannoit had a sad ending after boxing. He had moved from his small original city to Brussels but returned in the 70s as a broke penniless man on welfare. He died poor and a shell of himself late 90s with plenty of health issues.
Rarely do we hear about the happy stories. I am not a betting man so modern boxing does nothing for me. Our mistress is calling out without a hero to save her now, I think his name might me Inoue...
Inoue is great no doubt. I expect him to do a number on Donaire and win the real vacant bantamweight championship of the world-a title vscsnt since the 80s.
