Was the SD rightful? Close fight? How did he beat Whitaker and how close to his peak do you think he was? I've seen the Mayweather fight where he looked pretty good, but didn't have that many bouts yet..

I agree that Whitaker deserved the win like almost every agrees, but Ramirez turned in a really solid effort compared to his fights against other stick and movers. He applied loads of pressure and Whitaker didn't look very good in that fight, but he should have won.

Pretty much everyone is in agreeance that the fight was a robbery. Whitaker landed far more, hardly took anything in return, and made Ramirez out to look slow and plodding. That said, I agree that Whitaker didn't look great, if only because he was too intent on fighting off the backfoot and never trying his hand on the inside. In the rematch, he more or less stood his ground and took Ramirez apart even more handily, which reflected better on the judges (who were obviously biased and/or paidd off in the first Ramirez bout). Too much movement on Whitaker's part in this fight when it wasn't necessary IMO, as he showed in the rematch. Still, the fight was very clear in his favor, about a 9-3 type decision.

The first fight wasn't a robbery, whatch the fight for yourself, Whitakers going backwards trowing jabs and Ramirez just all over him good win for Ramirez.

    Yep, robbery.

It wasn't incredibly one-sided or anything, but Whitaker won clearly. I hope zorryt is either a troll or just joking, for HIS sake.

You don't win fights on aggression, you win them on "effective aggression". What good is being the aggressor when you're missing with almost everything you throw while getting tagged up repeatedly in return? Anyone who knows how to score boxing (and isn't being paid off) knows who easily won that fight.

It was a shutout for the first 5 rounds, then Whitaker breaks his left hand and it becomes a competitive fight for the remaining 7.

Whitaker was hitting his prime here, it's just that he broke his hand. If he had two good hands the whole way through it would have mirrored the Whitaker-Ramirez rematch.

Whitaker should've won. While it wasn't as bad as some other robberies, it was still rather ridiculous that Ramirez got the decision.

I had it 8-3-1 for Whitaker.

The rematch was better to watch, to see a great boxer like Whitaker on his "A" game.

I agree. There seems to be a problem on ESB with people thinking ineffective aggression should automatically be rewarded.
