Not a question of stumping you, I don't know the answer. Was just wondering if you did.

For sheer entertainment and a glimpse of our oldtime boxing legends. I pick the 1933 film , The Prizefighter And The Lady. I saw it several times on the internet a few years ago. It starred Myrna Loy, and the young irrepressible Max Baer. What a great personality Maxie had.! He danced [for a fashion], and sung in the picture, and one could see why he was a hit with the ladies. Good looking chap. And what I loved about the picture,? get a load of these oldtime great fighters introduced by the ring announcer !
Jack Dempsey, Primo Carnera, Jackie Fields, Jim Jeffries, Billy Papke, Mexican Joe Rivers,Jess Willard, Frank Moran, and Strangler Lewis. All in the film. Sadly the picture is
no longer being shown on tv or sold at Blockbusters.Too bad...

Was that the one where legend has it, Baer used the fight with Primo to learn how to actually beat him?

My boxing trainer says that Day-Lewis is the only actor he has seen move like a boxer.

I thought that let down The Fighter, Wahlberg just didn't move like a fighter at all. Bale moved like a fighter, though, with his own unique style, I could beleive he boxed, but Wahlberg looked like an actor trying to box.

Again my trainer has seen the Winstone film, Risen. He says it is good and hes going to give me a shot of it, so Ill let you know.

Ward was wooden, but even the most raw of boxer is more relaxed than Wahlberg IMO. He just seemed awkward.

I watched CHAMPION starring Kirk Douglas again. I would definitely recommend it to anyone who digs boxing films, noir, or Kirk Douglas. It's the goods, a very interesting character study. Douglas' performance/monologue at the end will stick with you. I tried to find a clip of it on youtube, but no luck. Check it out if you have Netflix. Though, like I said before, it's a colorized version, which will rankle the purists.

Raging Bull was great. DeNiro was damn near perfect in it! He gained weight just to fit the role while LaMotta was retired.

Tyson: The Movie was also superb. ****ing amazing. I also loved The Joe Louis story, starring Coley Wallace. The acting was a bit lousy sometimes, but they showed real fight footage (sped it up in some places though).

Did you know that Coley Wallace was the only boxer ever to defeat Rocky Marciano? He beat him in an amateur fight. Pretty interesting that Coley played Joe Louis in this movie, and in the movie Marciano.

He studied violin intensely for two weeks for the role (Humoresque) and was passable for the long shots, but the close-ups of the complicated stuff was his torso and another man's hands -that other man was Issac Stern, noted violinist.
