A boxer who has heart fights not only to win but to prove to himself that he can face any adversity. When he has nothing left to give, he only needs to light a spark inside him to keep fighting and hold on to that 1% chance he has of winning. When he falls, he gets up and fights with the same intensity with which he started the fight. There are very few boxers who have it... tell me which ones and why do they say that the heart cannot be trained?
The first one that comes to mind for me in recent years is Tyson Fury getting up in the 12th round in the first Wilder fight.
Kostya Tszyu vs Diosbelys Hurtado. The first round of that fight was brutal. Tszyu went down twice, Hurtado once. Both fighters were immense but Tszyu showed enormous heart to win that night.
Alexander Povetkin vs Dillian Whyte. Sasha pulled himself off the ground twice to land a massive uppercut that will go down as one of history's finest.
Felix Trinidad in the 10th round vs Bernard Hopkins. Great round. Tito's father had been lying to him the whole fight telling him he was winning. Tito knew the truth, he was getting picked apart by Hopkins. Before the 10th round Trinidad made a decision to go balls to the wall. He still believed in his power. It was a decision a true champion makes. They threw some leather that round. Tito was ripping but Hopkins was blocking some, and taking some but his counters were crisp. Toe to toe till the last second of the round Hopkins lands that uppercut and that essentially the fight. Tito never recovered. I was proud of both guys but Tito proved he was warrior in winning many fights and he proved it in losing to Hopkins. In other words he didn't go out like DelaHoya thankfully.
I'm surprised that Temu doesnt have a ceramic figurine of the Punch. I watched the fight at the time and have never watched since and I can still see it in my mind. Perfect.
